I was first introduced to colours at grade three. By then, my naive self had figured out that I loved purple. What's Your Favorite Color? by Amber L Lassiter invites you to a classroom experience with colors. Mrs. Lassiter has asked the children to paint with their favourite colors. Amber is so excited to show everyone her favourite color and see what theirs is as well. However, she forgot her water colors at home and has to do something about it. What is Amber's favourite color? What painting will she present to the class?

I liked the presentation of this book. The author used various stylistic devices in her delivery. There were rhetorical questions that guided the reader in his/her comprehension of the content. These questions are great as they help a reader to reflect on what is being narrated and possibly predict the next sequence of information.

The wealth of this book is in the illustrations. For a book about colors, the author knew how to appeal to her audience. Children tend to easily learn with diagrammatic representation of information and this book covered that area extensively. Their learning experience is boosted further, when they interact with the learning material on a personal basis.

There were tasks present in the book for readers to attempt. These came in the form of questions, whose answers a child is expected to provide. Not only will the tasks guarantee an active reading session, but also stimulate the child to think creatively so as to come up with the answers. The tasks are simplified because hints are also provided to aid the reader in coming up with answers.

There is nothing that I did not like about this book. It contains zero grammatical errors and must have been professionally edited. It is most suitable for readers between the age of seven and nine. It, therefore, merits a maximum rating of four out of four stars.

Sounds like a really great book for children. Not only that it is entertaining for kids (with those colorful presentations), it is also educational as it will stimulate kids imagination and comprehension with those tasks and questions. Thank you for your review, Kanda_theGreat!

I read this book once, and I agree with you. The illustrations were lovely. I think kids would love it because it's exciting to read as it has a touch of suspense, and at the same time, children can interact and get more involved in the story. Thank you for your excellent review!
