This collection of free verse poetry sounds beautiful. I love how the book discusses learning, embracing yourself, and womanhood. Congrats on the book of the day. Great review.

This seems like an original collection of poetry. Considering the diversity and profoundness of the themes the author approaches and the striking visual imagery, I'd like to give it a try. I'm particularly interested in the poems dealing with identity issues, especially since the author comes from Kenya. Thanks for an interesting review!

Poetry is not really my thing but the book is good. The book is an emotional one and I like the fact that it talks about the author's experience. She went through a lot but I am happy she came out strong. She didn't let these things break her, instead they made her who she is today. Nice poetry. Thanks for the review.

Being a poet myself, as well as from South Africa, which anyone from Africa will know, is not too far away, this book may be of interest for me. Quite honestly, however, I feel that any information about Africa going out to the world is a bonus. So little is known about Africans and there is a lot of nonsense and false information out there as well. If this book can be enjoyed and also provide a good insight, then it is certainly a good thing. Your review was insightful and interesting as well.

I like the many topics this book covers. Also, the author's background is interesting to discover, especially in poems.

An amazing review! Even though poetry is not usually my kind of read, I feel this book is compelling and interesting. Especially the fact that there are diverse backgrounds and experiences brought in by the author. I am convinced to read it.

I read the first poem and, wow, it is going to take me a while to work through the whole book. Her poems are very powerful and so full of images that put me in a world I have little experience with, but the emotions are very familiar. Thank you for your review.
We’re gonna need a bigger bookshelf.

I don't like read poetry even if it is written in my native language. I just don't understand all those rhythms, rhymes and other such things. It's even more difficult with secondary learned language, so I am afraid that I will have to pass reading this book.

I am always glad to read about stories from people with different experiences and backgrounds. I am impressed with the author's complex life story growing up in Kenya and living in New York. I am also glad that she shared some of the traumas that she has gone through and is able to wrote about them to give hope to others in similar situations.

From Kenya to Cuba to NYC, readers will journey alongside the author in today's BOTD through a relatable coming-of-age collection of free verse poetry. Revealed through personal experiences, her strong sense of identity and voice make this a must-read for me. I've downloaded my copy, and I'm looking forward to starting it! Thank you! :-)

Beautiful review of a beautiful book. It all seems so easy. Just be true to yourself and if you have something to say, it will come out right. The work behind it is invisible.
I understand that "adulting" is a process, coming from an age when you are silly and childish to a more serious, responsible you.
And sex comes with adulthood, doesn't it?
I believe the readers will love the book. Will there be just women among them? I hope not.

Thank you so much for this review! I loved the truthful explanations, I am really looking forward to reading it. Definitely feel like something I will enjoy and force me through that beautiful and uncomfortable place of facing other people's reality of adulthood, in whatever shape that may come!
