Re: Is Sex really necessary?
It is a part of the human nature. Yet, is it that much connected in order to mention always?

That is acceptable, yet the amount and the extent of the descriptions depend on the type of booktjportugal wrote: ↑16 Jul 2020, 08:58 Memorable author never resort to descriptions of explicit sex in their narratives. They always choose to portray the highest values that come with a dignified erotic relationship or, when portraying immorality or indincency, they tend to prefer a tone of "what a pity..."
Explicit descriptions tend to be very "animal-ish". Instead, true human relations are divine.

Pace can be kept by many means. So the use of those scenes might have been done with dual purpose, to keep the pace as well as to widen the target audiencemariana90 wrote: ↑16 Jul 2020, 11:12 I think the sex scenes were added as a means to pace the story. Especially in sci-fi adventure, if the story moves along at breakneck speed without pause, the readers become tired and plotpoints become less effective.
Having said this, the pacing could have easily been moderated by other kinds of scenes, not necessarily sexy ones. In my opinion, sex was chosen to widen the target audience.

My opinion is "absolutely YES" it is for couples bf or gfs/ married couple .To those people starting the mutual relationship to build up.Sex is really do a strong impact to all sex lovers out there.
Thats why for me it is necessary to do because of this we can build or start a strong relationship especially to those people who really discovering their mutual feelings with each other for me necessary means atleast four times in .To those husband and wives it is really more necessary because if the more often we do sex to.our couple the more founder and stronger the family will be and sex explore is special ingredients in couple relationship. Bf and gf it is not really necessary unless the lovers are into deep relationship to build a marriage and family to those bf and gf i dont think its necessary and needed..big no"unless guys has serious purpose to you so girls say "No".

Yes, in between Grant and Irina it was reasonable. But when the author took it to a further level it was quite out of placeMeleMallory wrote: ↑16 Jul 2020, 13:40 I think the sexual relationship between Grant and Irina during the expedition made sense, as they had a relationship beforehand. They are both attractive young humans, we have sexual urges and do have lots of sex. I also believe that when humans are put together in small groups for long periods of time, sex will happen. It’s human nature. Now, was all the bed-hopping necessary? No. Grant didn’t need to have sex with all the women on the expedition. The four-way between him and the three women scientists was unnecessary. And I don’t buy the explanation that there were hormones in the air causing all the sex drives. I’m not a scientist but I don’t think hormones work that way. I also don’t think all the women would get pregnant at the same time; that seemed to be very out of place.

I tend to disagree with the first part of your sentence, while agreeing with the second partIfy_Reviewer wrote: ↑16 Jul 2020, 06:25 I didn't see the necessity of the sexual encounter in the book but I would like to think that the author wanted to depict the fact that human can still be distracted by natural instincts like sex even when engrossed in other activities.

True. Sex is natural and very vital for us human beings.Sushan wrote: ↑15 Jul 2020, 20:09Having a mission doesn't mean that he/she has to suppress all his/her other needs and practisesMarion Jepkosgei wrote: ↑15 Jul 2020, 12:25 Ruling out the sex as irrelevant in the book is just defying our human nature. Just because Grant was on an expedition to find his uncle doesn't mean he shuts the natural instinct to have sex. To me, Fred's addition of a sex in the book is pretty normal. No man is an island.

Exactly my view too. If there were no emotions to the story, it would be boring, for me though.Erandi Ekanayake wrote: ↑16 Jul 2020, 22:11 Readers might get bored if the story does not contain a variation of emotions. Therefore including sexual encounters to the plot stands as an effective trick to broaden the audience. Yet I don't think that adding sex scenes to each and every fiction is compulsory.![]()
