From reading the sample, I could see that this would be a disturbing story. However, the review helped put it in perspective. I think stories of man's inhumanity to man are necessary too remind us of what can happen. We hope this brutality never happens again. Unfortunately, it seems there are modern day parallels. We can all learn from stories such as this. Thanks for the review.

This seems like a book I must read. The very first pages of the excerpt jolted me. The author portrays the horror of WWII vividly. Thanks you for the insightful review and the recommendation.

This is a historical fiction about Nazi Germany and their horrible treatment of the Jewish people. I don't think I can handle the gruesome actions depicted in this book. Great review. Congratulations on BOTD.

The Nazi era was a dark time indeed for the Jews but it is stories like these that remind us that they fought back in every way they could. An intriguing historical fiction indeed. Great review.

This sounds like a powerful story of the horrors the Jews endured during the WWII era. Thank you for your excellent review.

Historical fiction is a genre that I'm gradually finding myself warming up to. Based on your official review of the book, I'm very much interested in reading this book. I'd like to know how grandpappy Harran prepares his granddaughters for the incoming threat. His character seems wise and thoughtful. Wonderful review!

"Descriptive nature"...I'd have to agree. I read the sample with the fascination akin to watching a train wreck. It's horrific, you know some of those aboard will die, but yet you can't look away. I've long been fascinated by the Holocaust and books written about it. This one, though, after 'watching' the twins being executed in the sample, I can't bring myself to read. Great review, but this one's not for me.

Chameleons by Martin Wyatt is historical fiction and I don't like historical fiction. I don't know if I would read it. Congratulations on the #BOTD.

This sounds like a wonderful WW2 novel and it does give an impression of accurate description of the Nazi invasion of Polish Jews. The relationship between the grandfather and granddaughter also found the core of the story. Thank you for the lovely review!

I am not a big fan of historical fiction books in general. I also do not like to read graphic representations of real horrific events. Throughout my education, I read a lot of history and I actively choose books as pick-me-ups. I am not sure if I will read this novel any time soon, but thank you for your insightful review.

This is a whole different side of nazi invasion in portland.i like reading the WWII historical fictions. But the graphic nature of torture and execution in the story might disturb me. Therefore I'll pass this one. Thank you for a great review.
