The margins of our society are physical incarnations of mental illusions that perceive superiority in the form of colour and wealth. Yes, these boundaries do exist but this will never change the fact that we are one race.

In the novel Inferno Dawn by Jacob Emrey four races of beings clash in what is known a hundred years later as the great war. The humans realising that they could not win fighting with magic against the more magically superior orcs and elves turned to technology and won the war. Now more than one hundred years later with clear racial boundaries drawn in society that greatly favour the humans, in the bars and brothels of the kingdom, new alliances are forged with disastrous consequences. With almost every race turning up to the political poker table with an ace in hand, can the human Prince Dryden keep his game face on or will the human cards be scattered all over the table and the war ended before it is even begun.

Set in the middle of the human industrial era still ruled by a monarch with a few modern-day quirks the novel Inferno Dawn was an extremely interesting read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found nothing to dislike about the novel. To focus on one specific part of it that I enjoyed would not be doing justice to the rest of the novel. Characters and character relationships were well-formed and placed in a well written, suspense-filled plot that kept me on the edge of my seat for hours on end. The tension was so great I had to take a break at points just to get a grip on the whirlwind plot.

I rate the book 4 out of 4 because not only was the plot exciting, but the book was also well-edited and the few errors making for a smooth read since I hardly had to stop to jot them down. Though there was a subtle change of the title 'Sir' to 'Ser' which I originally thought was an error but was maintained in all situations throughout the novel. It deserves no less because this is probably one of the best books I have read in this genre.

Violence, profanity, sexual scenes, blood and gore all make this novel unsuitable for younger readers and even those sensitive to such scenes. However, if you enjoy a good sci-fi/fantasy novel I would highly recommend that you pick this one up as in Inferno Dawn Jacob Emrey weaves a tale that will grip you from dusk till dawn and from dawn till dusk. This is a really good first book in a really exciting fantasy series and I am looking forward to the sequel.
