Review: How to be successful.
Author: M. Curtis McCoy

Mr. McCoy says he has always enjoyed motivational music and inspirational books. After he got a call from someone thinking of ending their life, he decided to write a book. He wanted to encourage folks who were looking for ways to improve their lives. By mixing stories about people, with interviews of successful people who had been able to advance their goals he wrote his book.

Mr. McCoy begins his opus by writing about himself. He tells his story by an arrangement of events that read like a symphony of good luck. Mr. McCoy is able to write about his happiness by telling of his weakness, and his strength. As a result, his bliss has no sense of boasting or arrogance. He was born into a family with more love than money. Although he was good at sports, he had to practice. He was a good student, but he felt he studied more than less successful peers. He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 27 months of age. As a result, he was weaker and smaller than his classmates. He worked hard to overcome his handicaps and seemed to catch up with his peers by high school.

At the age of 27, Mr. McCoy owned companies in several fields. He states he considered himself successful at a young age. He felt great. Unfortunately, his health changed. He began to have grand mal seizures on a daily basis. He was diagnosed with brain cancer and given 60 to 90 days to live. His family took him to Mexico for alternative treatments. Uncertain of his survival or his future destiny, he returned to the enjoyment of inspirational musical and motivational books. He quotes Biblical references and talks about books he read as a teen. He was inspired by authors such as Dale Carnegie and Zig Ziglar, Gary Chapman, and Les Brown. His knowledge of motivational authors is palpable. It makes you feel you are actually reading the books again.

In this book of 175 pages, I read about homeless men, professional men and women meeting goals and obtaining dreams. I even read an interview with Mr. McCoy's mother: Connie Wyatt, CMO of Best Cellular. I especially liked her quote,
"Work like it is up to you and pray like it is up to God.

This book seems to have been professionally edited. I did not find spelling or grammar errors. I did find a couple of sentences that appear rather wonky to me. On page 119, the sentence reads, " I realize I was responsible for the way I people treated me." The extra word "I" does not seem to belong. I found no profane words or erotica in the book.

I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. The book was professionally edited. I could find no mistakes. I liked the book. It gave insight into the history of motivational books. It discussed writers like Dale Carnegie. It gave more in-depth coverage of new psychological ideas on the subject. People interested in reading about success or motivation would enjoy the book. The author is a Christian. He does use Christian quotes and concepts. If someone would find this offensive, perhaps they should avoid How To Be Successful.

I like how the author chose not to center the book only around him, but he also chose to showcase different person's experiences so that way more people are able to relate. Great review!

Sounds like a nice book, but I don't think it's a book for me. Nice review though :)
