I don’t believe that sexual content is necessary. As you mentioned it is an attractive feature to people looking for explicit content. Such content distracts from the meaning behind the story and drastically degrades the book.

I don't really think sex is necessary in most books. It is there to appeal to a certain type of reader or to broaden the scope of potential readers. I don't think in this case it adds to the story or is truly realistic.

I definitely agree with you. I think many times the graphic scenes detract from the story.

Exactly! And what is a truer depiction of being human than our imperfections? To be human is to be often irrational and to sometimes make avoidable mistakes.

I agree. I think that, especially in situations where death and danger are all around, sex is a celebration of not being dead or escaping danger.
