Review by Elvis Best -- Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a ...
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat, written by R.F. Kristi, is a children's book that follows the life of Inca, "a super-duper cat detective," who is the head of a detective agency made up of other dogs and cats. It is the seventh book in the Diary of a Snoopy Cat series but can be read as a standalone.
In this installment, Inca and her globetrotting friends travel to Sri Lanka to relax and have a fun vacation, but they soon discover that a valuable ancient sword has been stolen from a local museum. Solo, a world-famous detective, is put in charge of the case, but Inca is eager to solve the mystery and prove to everyone that she is also a world-class detective. Will she be able to solve the case before Solo? You have to read the book to find out.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, as the storyline was simple and fun to read. Also, the illustrations were catchy and engaging, and I know kids are going to love them. Moreover, the way the author described some scenes in the book was highly captivating, and it helped me to vividly imagine them. Take the following sentence, for example: "We woke up to soft golden sands and a brilliant blue ocean with white, frothy waves."
The one thing I liked most about Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat was the injection of humor throughout the book, as it made for very enjoyable reading. I caught myself laughing out loud on several occasions, and this really increased my enjoyment of the book.
However, I had a few issues with it. I found the length of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat to be a bit too long for a children's book, and a lot of the scenes included were not directly related to the plot. (It capped at 809 locations in my Amazon Kindle app.) This made it a little boring at times. But other than that, it was a delightful read for me.
Considering the aforementioned points, I rate Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat 4 out of 4 stars. The issues I encountered were too minor for me to knock a star off the rating. Furthermore, I believe it was exceptionally edited, as I found no errors in it. I would recommend it to kids between the ages of five and twelve.
