I didn't mind the first sexual encounter with Irina because it made their relationship more complicated. He still wasn't sure if he could trust her or if she was just using him. However, the sex later in the book seemed completely meaningless. If the author wanted to include that much sex in the book then he should've just written an erotic story.

I don't think the sex was necessary. I guess Grant wanted us to know how human he is.

I agree. The scene was unnecessary. It adds no value to the book's plot.

Am in agreement with you. Grant was determined to find his uncle. When would he have time to stray to other matters, that did not in any way aid his mission?

I do not think that the sex component was necessary for the book. However, the author actually depicted the true human nature and may have included that to attract readers who are fond of sexually explicit content.

Sex is part of the human nature, beautiful if done in well organized manner, preferably with one sexual partner, over indulgence in sexual activities however can lead a decline in energy especially for males as a lot of vital nutrients and vitamins are lost in the release of semen during ejaculation, which over time may result in loss of memory, motivation and passion to participate in more constructive endeavors.

This is a good question. I think many writers these days try to include a little bit of everything, to appeal to a broader audience. The same seems to happen in movies where there will always be a little bit of everything represented to widen the target audience. In a book like this, I think the inclusion of sex might be deemed unnecessary because of the circumstances of the story. It would be better if the plot can stand on its own merit.

Of cos, sex is highly necessary, not just for the enticement of some readers who might find it amusing, but for the protagonist to create some less tense mood and frenzy situation which they found themselves.

I think that it is in human nature if put in the same situation as the characters in this book to at some point have sex. I do however think that some sex scenes depicted in the book were unrealistic, unnecessary, and a distraction from the excursion.

I totally agree with you on sex being a deterrent. Sex is a distraction we just cannot get rid of. So while sex may not have been very necessary to the story, it helps readers relate because it is something we all deal with as human beings.

I found them to be accessories to the plot. In some places they felt natural and some felt a little forced.

We say business before pleasure, but if a writer decides to make book in which most scenes are made up of sex scenes then it is probably the sole aim if the book.

I felt the sex scenes were too frequent. The reader could get the idea that the explorers were losing their impulse control without detailing all the romantic relationships.

I think the author tries to depict sex as an instrument of distraction, and to develop the sci-fi plot with a spice of sexual fantasy.

I disagree. Sex is never not necessary. It is a component of not just humans but all of nature. It is everywhere. It is actually everything. It might be annoying in the story, but isn't it everywhere?
