Reading helps me maintain my sanity. If its a self help book it teaches me so much . If its a fiction it broadens my imagination. Historical fiction , Romance helps me re-live history and romance. The intense characters give me perception , which I might not understand and get through when you meet people with similar persona in reality . These are the reasons why I like reading .

Reading lets me undertand other people viewpoints and acknowledge what can be felt in a certain situation in which I am not currently. It makes me aware of what others may be struggling with and, at the same time, reminds me that those could be my problems too.
Of course, fiction will always be that: fiction. But when you realise how much knowledge of the reality is required to write a fictional story, you understand that fiction is more similar to real life that anyone would like to admit.

I like reading because it's my own little happy place. It's that feeling you get when you get euphoric over something so trivial like the pattern of a flower or the smell of the rain when it's gone.
Whenever I read a book, it transports me into the adjective of comfortable. The few minutes or hours that I can ease my thoughts and just read someone else's story. Truly sensational.

I reading because I get to unfold new mysteries every time. Reading improves my grammar and also makes it easier for me to communicate with people. I get to imagine and experience situations.

As I’m currently in the process of writing short stories, I read because I want to get my gears turning. I like that when I read, especially a fiction novel, I get to draw creative ideas—sometimes at random—and it hugely helps with my writing.

I also love to read because in reading books, you get to develop perspectives, and strong opinions on different subjects.

Books have brought forth a certain comfort that I could never get anywhere else. Reading transports me to a whole world of endless possibilities. The reasons are endless.

Going to different worlds, seeing different perspectives, learning different things; I love reading because there is just so much you can get out of it. Every piece of literature adds something new to our world and there are just endless amounts of stories just waiting to be told every single day.

As someone who also does writing in their free time, reading other people's stories always helps me to get inspiration when I have terrible writer's block.

I have to admit that the main reason I like to read is the escape from reality that it provides. However, I also enjoy being able to see the differences between my perception of the world and the main characters.

There are so many reasons to read. I've read for years and it is a great way to escape the reality around me for the time being. I also love to read about things in history, but not necessarily a history book. Young adult novels are a way for readers to connect with the characters and might realize that they are dealing with in their real life. One of the most powerful things a young reader can identify with is a character that is dealing with the death of a family member and that is exactly what the reader may have recently experienced. Books are motivational and uplifting and powerful in many ways. Books take you places that I might not be able to travel too, but with a book I can.

Reading gives me an opportunity to escape from the harsh realities of life. I am one of those persons who get seriously annoyed when I am reading and someone interrupts me. I want no distractions when I am reading! :o

Apart from an escape, reading exposes me to so much, on so many levels. I learn of places that I have never been to. I learn about different cultures or ways of looking at things. Self-help books also encourage me to make better decisions and live a better life.

I feel so sad that younger persons (mainly teenagers)do not enjoy reading as much as older people do. I am in my thirties and it's a constant battle when I try to get my teenager son to read :( The internet has its perks but I truly think that because it makes thing so readily accessible, the younger generation is more caught up with social media with its many pictures and videos.

These accessories can never replace a good book in my view. :D

I agree with Kath. I like reading because it allows me to escape the world that i am in now.
I totally agreed. I use books as another parallel world for me to escape the reality.

I read to get my mind off things and to relax. I like to imagine different places and people and see what an author's take is on different subjects, like how they imagine a dystopian future would be like.

I obviously cannot answer this question without boring you to hell. So I'd go with the fact that since childhood, since I could read, without understanding much, I really had a huge love for literature and stories. I haven't stopped since then.
