This does not sound like my kind of book. The author seems to have done an excellent job depicting the turmoils of the Middle East, but for me, it’s a part of history I’d like to keep in the past.

This book certainly sounds like an accurate depiction of a country and a people who I unfortunately know very well, in fact better than I would like to know. It is truly amazing that the world turns a blind eye to human rights violations being committed in countries such as these. Slavery continues in many Arab countries and in Africa. Iran is behind most successful international terrorism and yet human rights, the UN, and BLM concentrate on dubious historical facts and ignore areas of the world which are still committing inhumane atrocities today. Prisoners of war and political prisoners, as well as common criminals, suffer conditions that did not even exist in the infamous English jails in history. This sounds like a gripping novel but I will have to read it with some circumcision because of my PTSD from my own experiences. But novels like this are excellent for bringing these issues to the attention of a dysfunctional world at large. I believe that the family drama introduces a relevant dimension to the plot as well. Your review was very interesting to read.

Good job on your review! The conspiracy aspect of this book is interesting but the book overall doesn’t appeal to me. I did read some of the sample, it is well written but it’s just not pulling me in.

This was a very long review, I like the length and the details provided, I would like to see how Jamsheed realized that his own brother was a target for the superior office. I also liked it when an author used variety of themes and styles in a single book just as Jemil did.

Wow, what a difficult book to have to read through! You did a terrific job of seeing past its disturbing content and presenting how it could beneficially speak to others. Unless I had to research the topics to inform myself, or others, concerning them, it's unlikely I would choose to read through this. I hope all those who suffered and survived such things have since found peace and happiness in their lives.

I will skip this book. Torture and disturbing thrillers aren't my type. I appreciate your review.

An awsome review of a good book. I am very interested in historical thrillers or books that tells more about the history of a country or society, and how it came to be where it is today. But I have no stomach for cruelty and torture. So I think I will give this book a pass.

Wow. This was a great review. I appreciated your honest analysis. I'm intrigued by what you shared about the point-of-view from which this story is told. It's interesting that the narrator would be (what you'd assume would be) an unsympathetic character--unsympathetic because he starts out as a torturer. It sounds very well done. I'll be taking a pass as I don't want to read the torture scenes, but it sounds really well done. Thank for your review!

I appreciate the author's message and creativity but the gore sounds a little too intense for me.

This book contains cruelty at its peak which bothers me a lot. However, it makes it real and passes across the message intended. Great review.

I really admire the lucid review but all the same, I might not like to read the book because of the violent scenes. Congratulations though.

Thank you for the detailed review. This does not seem like a novel I would be interested in, but I am glad it’s featured. Thank you for the review and congrats to the author for BOTD.

This is a good book for history buffs. When dictators rule, terror follows. I agree that the person telling the story is a surprise. I appreciate your insights about the Iran's history. Great review!

This book has so much torture with war going on in other cities. This is good for me to understand what war was about. The mother couldn't bear the seeing what her children went through. Wonderful job on the review.posting.php?mode=reply&f=63&t=159624#
