Intriguing and honest review. Your description of how it seems you were there with them on the expedition without actual facing the dangers shows that the book is really an engaging one. Thanks for the review.

Grant's special ability when it comes to wolves reminds me of the movie:silver wolf and makes me want to read the book.

This book sounds very intresting... it reminds me of this other novel I once read about a plance crash with the survivors being in the middle of an unknown island, trying to find their way out and back to society. I love books like this, thanks for the great review!

Adventure, fantasy, suspense! All my favorite genres wrapped in one book! Can't wait to try it out. Seems absolutely my type of book.

A classic story of the hero who ventures into the unknown; to confront dangers beyond the horizon, to rescue his father. I too would feel a bit ambivalent when contemplating the necessity of sexual material in a fictional work as this. I imagine the author wanted to attach a sense of reality and personal conflict to the story. I like that it is set in the cold plains of Russia; that is not very common.

I've looked at this book before and was turned off by the amount of drinking and sex encounters. The expedition and mystery of the uncle's disappearance sounds intriguing. Not sure why the author saw fit to include the other in excess.

My greatest accomplishment is that I raised two daughters that love to read.

This was a great book. I did feel that the beginning was slower too, but it certainly got going early on.
Great review!
