Official Review: Odell’s Fall by Norman Bacal
The pain of betrayal by someone you thought was a friend can be too gruesome to bear. Odell's Fall by Norman Bacal carefully depicted how devastating this could be.
The book revolved around Odell Moore, a prominent lawyer at a big shot firm and husband to Dee. He was betrayed by someone he considered his most loyal associate, Jackson Sherman. He (Odell Moore) became the prime suspect in the murder of his father-in-law and his wife's hospitalization. Unfortunately, he had no recollection of the event. There was also the case of his wife's infidelity. How would he handle these issues, especially the pain of his lovely wife cheating on him with his best friend?
The author is an experienced and seasoned writer. He knows how to set and control a book's tone efficiently using words to create the moods he wants to pass across to the reader. With his uncanny description of events, he solicits emotions from the reader and creates an atmosphere and connection (energy) between the reader and book. One can feel the same feelings as the protagonist — swinging from happy to sad, frustrated, or enraged as the story unfolds.
The author seems to be quite skilled in the use of figurative expressions. I love how he employs them to create a riveting reading experience. This was my best feature in this book. His use of personification shows in this example:
The use of personified descriptions helps the interaction between the reader and the non-human characters. Attributing life to nature has a way of painting beautiful pictures in the reader's mind and connecting the reader to nature. The author does an excellent job in this regard. The afternoon humidity, perfumed faintly by the late-season magnolias, greeted her like a familiar friend, escorting her toward the knoll. Halfway up the knoll, the gnarly oak tree, stooped with the passage of time, cast its shadows over the upper storey of the whitewashed house behind it.
It's hard to find a book as fascinating and thrilling as this one. I was very impressed after reading Odell's story. The author skillfully employed a lot of writing techniques to mold this beautiful work of art properly. I applaud the diligence and level of work he put into it.
I found no errors in the book; the writing was exceptionally done, and the editing was professional. I gladly give this book four out of four stars. I recommend it to anyone who loves action thrillers with beautifully crafted descriptions.
