Review by Mokgabudi Matome -- Strong Heart
The writer has written an exciting story that takes one through a marvellous journey. The name Strong heart fits the book perfectly as it is a true representation of the book contents. There is a well-known saying that says “do not judge a book by its cover” but when it comes to Strong heart I beg to differ. Mr Charlie Sheldon knows how to keep the reader glued to the book from page to page. The book takes one on an interesting journey that is filled with mystery, knowledge and a lot more.
The story starts where friends are about to take a camping trip that has been long overdue. The journey took an interesting turn when a niece of one man going to the journey turned up at the door. What is exciting is she was not known until her arrival the evening before the journey. Even though the kid did not take a liking to them immediately, she joined them when she was invited to tag along. Upon them arriving at the camping place they did find the grave of their great grandfather that was buried there years ago when he had taken the journey up with his son.
Even though they seemed to have fun at the place they knew that the place was under threat as a mining company was surveying the place so to mine it. They had an ancient offering that if people knew about it would make it hard for the mining to commence. While on camp they had a small clash were the niece who showed up a day before ran away and got lost. They tried searching for her but had no luck for 8 days. Eventually she showed up out of nowhere and had an interesting story to what happened to her even though it made her seem crazy.
The book is full of knowledge and exciting discoveries. I would recommend the book to scholars from various fields as it contains knowledge of ancient things that took place. As a person who had studied geology, I took a liking to the book and I believe fellow students would also love it. The book also has an adventure side to it that makes it interesting for the young minds to tag along this journey. Archaeologists would also have an interesting read because it contains vital info that could expand their knowledge. I also would also recommend it to be a bedtime story for kids.
When Sarah got lost while they were camping, she came back with an interesting story to what had happened to her and that brought an interesting twist to the story. The part above is what I had mostly liked about the book. It was like a story in a story. I did not welcome the part where Sarah’s grandfather lost his work because he had a valid reason why he had not turned up to work. I would rate the book 4 out of 4 because it was well edited. It shows the writer and the editor took their time in preparing the book for the readers. The chapters are also put in a way that it makes it easy to engage with the book.
