Imagine waking up on a deserted island with no recollection of how you got there, then being barraged by a constant flow of obstacles and challenges, one after another as you try to develop an escape plan. That’s what happened to Matthew and Ryan in Island Games , a fictional mystery and adventure novel written by 14-year-old Caleb Boyers. Join them on their journey as they search for answers and come together bravely to face each hurdle.

This is a short novel comprised of 23 chapters and an afterword from the author. It is chock-full of valuable life lessons and metaphors. You get to witness the personal growth and maturity increase in both characters as the story goes on. Caleb Boyers keeps readers on the edge of their seats with this action-packed mystery, never knowing what will come next. He devised 4 different quadrants, as he called them, each filled with unique challenges for each one, but also with distinctive patterns.

This is an inspirational and empowering story about two close friends who must come together and work as a team to stay positive and overcome their fears. The novel includes many treacherous excursions and dangerous battles which require them to work together to survive. They discover the power and importance of friendship, teamwork, and positivity. They learn to focus on finding solutions rather than wasting time complaining about their circumstances and whining about their problems.

There is no profanity or erotica found in Island Games, which makes it appropriate for young readers as well as adults. I believe that readers of any age can learn something new from the way the boys handled each of their experiences thru collaboration. I believe the only complaint anyone would have with this novel is its cliffhanger ending.

There were no spelling errors or grammatical mistakes found within this novel, as it appears to be professionally edited. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to escape reality for a little while and live vicariously through their adventure. I rate Island Games by Caleb Boyers 4 out of 4 stars and am looking forward to reading Secret of the Island Revealed!
