I have chosen to read Sarah Henning’s Sea Witch. It is a retelling of the story of the Sea Witch from Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid. There is a sequel as well, Sea Witch Rising.

'A Court of Thorns and Roses' is a great suggestion for a retelling! But it's not only the first book that's a retelling of the story - the second book 'A Court of Mist and Fury' is also based on a fairytale: Snow White and the Huntsman! I'm also yet to read the 'Lunar Chronicles' but I'm excited to start!

Just started reading the Lunar Chronicles. I enjoyed Cinder and now on Scarlet. I can imagine this can be turned into a series on the CW. It has potential, and cyborgs and extraterrestrial entities are all the rage now. I might try the other suggestions after I'm done.

Mercedes Lackey has written an entire series called "Elemental Masters" built around fairy tale retellings. Each book reworks a different fairy tale, and the series is set mainly in Edwardian England. The "masters" in the series title are sorcerers who can manipulate the elements. Many of the books feature female protagonists, and at least some could qualify as historical fiction. "Phoenix and Ashes," for example, is set during WWI, and the male lead is a veteran fighting PTSD as well as evil supernatural forces.

I've read some of these and I have to say this list is beautiful. Lunar Chronicles was one of my favourite series so I recommend it to everyone.
