Don't let her undermine your happiness...your relationship with your husband...or the happiness of your child. You can be the mother you always wish you had. Don't let her rain on your happiness. That is what an answering machine (and sometimes just the hang-up button) is for

This is so very true... and I've had this same issue with people in my family. Not just my mom, but one or two of my sisters too. My step-daughter has similar problems with her mom. What I always tell her is that just because they are your family doesn't mean you have to put up with BS from them. You may always love them, but by no means do you have to like them. If you wouldn't associate with that kind of person that you met at work, a book club, or wherever, then you don't have to associate with them just because you're related to them. It is their loss, not yours. It's a hard decision to make, I know, but often times you will find yourself much happier without the constant problems in that relationship. And, of course, it doesn't have to be permanent. They may come to their senses one day and realize what a great person/relationship they missed out on.

I shouldn't hate the cat, I should hate the owners. Get your damn cat fixed! Or keep it inside...no, screw that. Get it fixed. There's a vet not two blocks from my house; they'd be happy to do it, I'm sure.
My daughter has one of those yappy dogs (and PLEASE don't compare them to sweet, cute luvvie rats!
