Review by Serenity2010 -- Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick
Devil Among Us is the second book in Jack Winnick’s spy series. This book is another page turner from the start. The novel features Lara Edmond and Uri Levin, combating terrorism again. Lara, a Joint Terrorism Task Force agent and Uri, a Mossad agent, join forces when a Jewish synagogue is attacked in New York City by Islamic terrorist. The investigation is swift and provides the story with mystery and suspense, as we follow Lara and Uri from New York to Texas. Everything is not as it seems, and the team uncover one of the biggest terrorist plots of their time. The terrorists’ mission. Wipe Israel off the map.
Israel’s very existence hangs in the balance, as the investigation takes the team to the Middle East to unravel this plot. The battles are very descriptive from every angle. There are battles on the ground, battles in the sky, mischief from other countries and one big naval threat that could end Israel. One question remains, what will the United States do? As Islamic factions, Zionist groups and their allies do everything in their power to erase Israel, the team race against time to stop them.
This is the second book I have read of Jack Winnick and much like his other books. What I like most is the realism intertwine with fiction. Winnick’s knowledge of the Middle East provides readers with the visual aids needed to envision each action-packed chapter. The perspective switch from chapter to chapter provides readers with detailed context of the overall plot.
In all this chaos Lara, and Uri manage to be the upbeat, electrifying, dynamic duo, that they are in his other books. Their romance provides readers with a breath of fresh air as they figure out how to stop the destruction of Israel. The ending was wrapped up too fast for me, the reader should have been provided with more detail of what happened to the terrorist. That was the only portion of the book lacking. However, I am one who likes to know everything.
I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars, because that is how intriguing the story line is. I recommend a mature audience, 18 years of age or older, who like fast pace suspenseful books to pick this one up. It is great as a stand-alone novel and it has a few inappropriate scenes that maybe too much for a younger audience.
