I feel for Joey. Having a drunkard father who abuses you physically and emotionally is not what anyone can wish for. I'm intrigued by Tears and Trombones by Nanci Lee Woody and I will consider reading it. Congratulations to the author on the BOTD. Great review!

Certain beliefs dictate those that struggle through to achieve their dreams are somehow more enriched than those that are given a free ride. If you do not put in the hard work, how can you say you understand the hardships of others if you never had to struggle? To those that have been handed everything: if you never put in the time, the effort, the sweat, bleed, cried, hurt, how can you know what more you could achieve? How much more enriched your life would be?

Great review, and makes one think and for some [like me] remember. As someone that grew up in a very poor environment, family members that had drug/alcohol addictions and look down upon because I was of mixed race [in a neighborhood of mixed races] was difficult to say the least. But I have survived and came out stronger for it I think.

To have a dilemma of to stay with the one you love or the one you are financially obligated to? I for one would definitely choose the one I love. And it is exactly what I did in my own life.

It's very encouraging and satisfying to see a young boy brave all the storms of life and overcome every hindrances thrown at him to still achieve his dreams. This book is truly an inspiring one. CONGRATULATIONS on being BOTD

"Tears and Trombones" by Nanci Lee Woody - an easily readable story of a young boy growing to manhood in a disfunctional family and realizing that his love for music is the most important thing in his life. Thanks for the review, it was beautiful.

I am curious about the author's relationship to the characters. The cover mentions that it is a true story. Your review was very inspiring, I am putting this on my "To Read" list.

To get a glimpse into other peoples struggles (although fictional) and to see how they overcame against all odds is encouraging. The book feels real, thank you for a great summary.

A very much emotionally captivating story in the book "Tears and Trombones" by Nanci Lee Woody, which is about Joey, a young boy growing up under drunken, emotionally abusive father, but has dreams to become a great trombonist. The story appears interesting to me.

Wow, this review very well written!

I read the free snippet on Kindle, and felt instantly like I needed to read more. That maybe one time I read a book such as this, and would greatly enjoy it!

So naturally, I went to read the “official review” here on OnlineBookClub to make sure it’s really one I am interested in. And you have done just this for me!

When you wrote “balances the horrors of family life with the beauty of music.” It painted a picture that I wasn’t quite picking up, and made me realize the book has more depth than the snippet lead on, and that YES! I must read this book!
