I must mention, this book is for a mature audience only. I will strictly recommend it to readers aging 18 and above. Moreover, this book is not for very religious people as it contains a fair amount of profanity and sexual content. Even the book includes a warning regarding the adult content in its initial pages.

Gangsta of Love by Brouchea Edwards is a fictional story featuring a group of brothers and friends. It mainly deals with drugs, sex, and crime. The story is set in Houston, Texas. Although it is fiction, it showcases the reality of those who get entangled in the dirty business of drugs on the streets. Swisher, the main character of our story, gets caught by the police selling drugs. Also, on the very same night, his brother dies due to a gunshot. His eldest brother, Dank, also sells drugs at first but after the death of his brother decides to indulge in music. When Swisher gets out of jail, Dank and a few other boys with similar interests in music begin working together. Sadly, with time, almost each one of them gets wrapped into drugs and girls. It directly affects their bond, which causes trust issues and tension to build up. Swisher realizes he is loved by few and hated by many, which leads him towards more crime on the streets. Will the brotherhood survive? Will Swisher be able to achieve his aim? How will the boys survive from the clutches of crime?

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about this book. The best thing is the unique story-line. The concept of the book, along with the plot, is very gripping. The thing I did not like is the writing style. The language used is very complicated at some points. So much was going on in the book at once, which often made me lose interest. If the tone used might have been a bit plain, I would have enjoyed reading it much more.

As mentioned earlier, there are many instances of profanity and sexual scenes in the book. It also contains violence, which may be unsuitable for young readers. There were some noticeable typos and errors in the book. The book needs a round of better editing.

On the whole, I will rate it a 3 out of 4 stars read. The story was different and gripping, but the language and lack of professional editing made it lose a perfect rating. The book is not for sensitive readers. People who enjoy reading about drugs and violence must read this book. The cover of the book itself is sufficient to demonstrate that the book is to be read by an adult audience only.

The story carries a message that one’s past is not easy to leave behind. No matter how hard we try to rectify ourselves, the deeds we do always find their way back to us. The story reflects how a life filled with crime always leads to an ugly place. I hope the readers will get the same message after reading the book as I did.

It would be interesting reading a book predominantly on drugs and gangsterism. Nice review.

This sounds like an action-packed book with a cast full of interesting characters. I like the message that the author is trying to convey--even though we aren't proud of our past, there is always a way to move forward. Thanks for the enthralling review.

Thanks for your review! I don't know if I would enjoy this book, but it does sound interesting, and I like that your point out that it has a message about how hard it is to overcome past challenges in life.

I read this book too and found it lacked true professionalism. I think it is based on the chopped and screwed rappers of Swisher House. I have also seen OneLove as a signature by less than favorable people from my younger years. I wouldn't have rated it as high but more for my dislike of the slang writing and lack of proper grammar. However, you wrote a great review! Kudos!
