This would definitely be a good book to read. I would love to know how he was saved by music from an abusive father and then his relationship. Thanks for a beautiful review.

I love historical fiction and this sounds like a wonderful story. I always identify with characters who don't quite fit in with their family because I kind of am one. Thank you for your insightful review of this book.

Tears and Trombones is based on a true life story of Joey, a young boy growing up under different times, turn to music for a reprieve. His family life was a mixture of turmoil and emotional abuse. His mother was too afraid to stand up for him. His father favor his other brother than him. Joey wanted to become a musician. He struggled against all odds, as he fights to become a great trombonist.

Between his parents and the woman he loves, he feels indebted for helping him financially, the road to performing like the stars, is not without an obstacle, but still holds his unquenchable determination to get there.

This sounds like a touching novel that takes place in the 1940s. There are a lot of emotions discussing the tragedies in life and the beauty of music. Congrats on the book of the day. Great review.

It certainly appears that the author has written a winning novel based on this review. I sampled some pages and could tell that the author is extremely adept at her craft. The story looks to be very compelling although tales involving harsh, physical and mental treatment of children by strict parents are not of particular interest to me. Nevertheless, congratulations on being awarded BOTD.

This is a lovely review! Your writing is actually great to read - maybe we will be reviewing something you have written one day! I too felt grabbed by this (just the sample for me) book. I immediately felt invested in the characters and I ended the sample wanting more. I’m glad you think that the whole book is good - I’m thinking I’ll have to go get it now!
