Passion Richards is what every free-thinking woman hopes to be. Independent and accomplished, she owns her very own tow and trucking company: PassioNate Auto Movers, which was quite successful. From the looks of it, she seems to have it all, besides a man and a ring on her finger.

Jody is the stellar opposite. He's a con artist with a reputation and a record. It wasn't the good kind, more like a drug-dealing and womanizing reputation. He was sent to juvie at seventeen for possession of stolen goods, and he's done much more than that ever since. These two meet, Passion and Jody, and we dream of romance, but Jody is all out for Passion's money and the wheels are turning in the con artist's mind. While we are set out to witness another Jody con of the year, Passion has something else cooking. The turn of events is something you should read about.

The Finesser by Patrice Brown is a positively thrilling novel. A show of good storytelling by the author, judging by her tight rein on Passion's intentions till the ending, only divulging little clues just enough to pique a reader's curiosity. It spots some hoodoo witchcraft and would appeal more to its practitioners.

One thing I liked the most was the character formation. The characters were well suited to the plot. The author paid good attention to details such as the accent, tone, background, and even the turn of events. Jody, for instance, is a character raised by an abusive father and an uncaring mother. His childhood ordeals are still reflected in his personality and the neglect of his son, Richie. Another example is her accurate description of Passion's hoodoo practice methods and conjuring room. All these made me relate deeply with the characters and felt like I was witnessing the story in person.

The only flaw in the book would be concerning the editing. The book seems to lack professional editing evident in the plethora of grammatical errors found whilst I was reading. Some of these errors are so obvious that they could be spotted by simple reading even by a non-professional. This was the thing I disliked most about the book. I think it would be better appreciated without those errors.

I would rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. This is because of the grammatical errors earlier mentioned. Otherwise, it would be a perfect rating. I really enjoyed my time with the book and would recommend it to thriller loving readers who enjoy hoodoo witchcraft themed books.

The characterization must be splendid. At least a reader could easily connect with the book. I enjoyed this review.

Yes it is. Jody is one hell of a character but Passion really was the knockout in the book. Her strength of character was second to none. It was a splendid read.
