Book Review: How To Be Successful: Think Like A Leader by M. Curtis McCoy

How To Be Successful: Think Like A Leader by M. Curtis McCoy is a motivational powerhouse of a book. Curtis included real-life stories and interviews he conducted with people who chose to improve their lives despite the odds. He interviewed professional athletes, preachers, wealthy investors, inventors, expert negotiators, and even ex-convicts turned entrepreneurs. He mixed these interviews with life lessons that apply to business, relationships, and all aspects of being truly successful. His own life story of sickness from childhood diabetes to brain tumor in adulthood evolved into great successes. He became the owner a cellular company and this tells of his strength of character, tenacity and resilience.

The words of the Bible that was quoted throughout this book underscores the need for parental training, guidance and support in the development of the mind as well as the need to be spiritually connected to God. From a tender age, Curtis’ mother was instrumental in preparing him for greatness. The stage was set at all those motivational seminars and conferences that he along with his sibling attended, that I believe, inspired him to build his own stage as a very successful entrepreneur. Parents who are seeking help in how to inspire greatness in their own children must acquire a copy of this book. I, myself a parent, will digest and hold in the inner recesses of my mind the formulas for success and regurgitate same to my child.

I was impressed with all the interviewees and their overcoming stories. I was especially impressed with the interview Curtis conducted with his own mother. My desire to be a better mother has been strengthened. I was lost in the pages of this book. I found it hard to put it down for another time and whenever I did, I eagerly returned to it and continued reading. Even while actively doing chores, the words of inspiration and motivation kept popping up in my head.

I enjoyed reading this book. I have learned so much that will encourage my personal development and growth for every aspect of my life. Curtis even added advice on marriage, oh my gosh. He said, that if you make your decisions backed by biblical principles, you cannot be wrong. He used the Bible to confirm his experiences and thoughts.

The entire book is about success, and Curtis defined success as doing something that improves the lives of others while being happy. This is wonderful, as we cannot live our lives unto ourselves, this would definitely be defined as failure. He also helped me to understand how to practice delayed gratification and how to use it improve my life and that of my child.

I think he is a brilliant writer and motivator and the editors did an awesome job with this book. I like the book immensely and I did not dislike any aspect of it. I really liked the font size that was used. I want to believe that great thought was put in its production. Apart from the inspirational words, it is an easy and intriguing read. It is an amazing book that I will give a 4 stars out of 4 rating.
