Honestly, I've never tried making my own hot chocolate. I prefer trying various powdered cocoa mixes. World Market has a great variety of flavors that I've enjoyed like Dark Chocolate Orange. But I've seen some Starbucks copycat recipes on Pinterest that look amazing!

Swiss Miss hot chocolate is my favorite. Just put it in a cup with warm milk and you are good to go. During the holidays, I add a bit of peppermint for peppermint hot chocolate. It's always a crowd favorite at parties.

I don't have the recipe off hand, but if you add powdered milk and sugar to cocoa in the right ratio it can be really good. I used some organic dark cacao powder, powdered whole milk, and demerara sugar along with honey powder and then flavored it with homemade extracts. It was really good. You should be able to get cocoa powder and/or cacao powder and demerara sugar at most grocery stores. I got the honey powder from Bulk Foods.com (they also carry molasses powder or at least they used to) and I got the powdered whole milk from Walmart. I currently can't find it online, however. The brand of powdered whole milk I currently have is Wincrest Bulk Foods but I think before I had a brand called Hoosier. I made little baggies of cocoa in white, milk, and dark and had them at Christmas for a hot chocolate bar. I used to rent a spot at an antique store and so I carried old fashioned candy - stick candy (butterscotch, rum & butter, peppermint, spearmint, raspberry, etc.) used as a stir stick, melted into the hot cocoa was really good. The stick candy brand I had was Gilliam, but I think any flavored stick candy would work, or else coffeehouse syrups!

Any kind of Italian hot chocolate recipe is better than the powdered hot chocolate you get in stores.

I enjoy crock pot hot chocolate when you have a crowd. You can find recipes online. It doesn't keep well if you turn off the heat. (Mine turned into pudding but was still yummy!)

Just make sure the milk is piping hot, throw in some cinnamon sticks and vanilla pods and whatever brand cocoa powder you enjoy.

I love to make hot cocoa bombs! They're balls of chocolate with cocoa powder in them so you can put them into hot water or hot milk, and the chocolate melts. Love tp add marshmallows and whipped cream!

I made hot chocolate mix for my boyfriends birthday recently. Add equal amounts of cocoa powder and powdered sugar with little cornflour a few drops of vanilla essence and dark chocolate. Top with marshmellow n voila!

That sounds really good. It's cold today so I might try this out!

I only ever use the instant hot chocolate power that you just add water to, but they come in such a wide range of flavors that I'd say there's one for everyone.
