Jonathan McCalister is a star football player in his hometown. He has a wonderful family, a loving girlfriend and a successful career waiting for him. After winning the State Championship for the Katy Tigers, his family decides to have a celebratory dinner. Tragedy struck on his way there; he wakes up dumbfounded in a hospital and is abandoned by the people he cared most for. The incident leaves him spending the rest of his life in guilt and sorrow.
Years later, he meets Samantha Reid, a college student, who is hired to be his personal assistant by his mother. As they get to know each other, they eventually fall in love and she helps him overcome the obstacles that have been weighing him down and provides him with the support he needs as he faces the past, and relive the traumatic experience by embracing his present.
In the first two chapters of the book, Jonathan’s character is energetic, excited about his scholarship to pursue his football career and even has a strong relationship with his family. As the story progresses, he is miserable, angry at himself, and fails to confide in anyone. He eventually starts to let people in and changes his perspective which allows him to understand his purpose and encourages him to put the past behind him to move forward.
Samantha’s character is sweet, hardworking, and ambitious. She is smitten by Jonathan and does not pity him, but shows him compassion and understanding. She does not share a close relationship with her mother and sister because she prefers to be independent and pursue her goals.
The supporting characters, Dominic, Kylie, Tom, and Elijah are unique in their own way. They are Samantha’s and Jonathan friends; they support and help them along the way.
Glenn Vo’s 2612 Cherryhill Lane is outstanding. I immediately felt compassion and empathy for Jonathan. He went through a great ordeal and he has lived his life in misery; it took him years to open-up to the people around him and when he finally did, they respected him and did not look down on him.
I always feel emotional when I read stories like this and tend to obsess about the characters. It really made an impact on me and this is what I loved about the book. I was deeply inspired to change my way of thinking and to appreciate the people in my life.
There are biblical quoting’s in the novel, at first, I did not think much of it, but as you read further you get an understanding of its importance and emphasis on the story. It plays a major role in Jonathan’s growth and self-realization.
It is a romance novel, but it did not revolve around romance. I felt it looked at giving the audience a certain message and I believe it is a motivating story about forgiving yourself, moving on and making a difference. It is a very strong and sensitive novel; I believe the audience will enjoy it. The author’s passion for writing stories like this is what makes the book meaningful and sentimental.
I liked that the author referenced various books throughout the story. I also loved the biblical quotes, this made reading very emotional. I rate the novel 4 out of 4 stars because it is a lovely story, and the message was related perfectly. I can recommend this book to persons who are romance lovers and spiritual as it is a touching story. It was also professionally edited which is a perfect 4 out of 4 score.
