Billy plans his boat trip with Christie, his partner, and his friend. It is not a harmless way out into the dark waters, but the two of them have a dangerous and very important task. They need to check the yacht that is packed with drugs and immigrants. But before that, he needs to check the pots with Denny, his other friend. An inexplicable creature kills Denny on the pier, and Billy becomes the first suspect with a strange story. Panic takes over Billy’s mind after an unplanned event delays the problem of a yacht carrying drugs and immigrants. Will the skilled Detective Inspector Jack Munro find out what this is all about? Is Billy going to be charged for Christie’s death?

Breakers by Barry Litherland is a unique crime fiction creation. The plot follows Billy, who has the dangerous task of delivering drugs to his boss. An unexpected event left him stuck in the police station. I love the dynamics and mystery of this book. The author gave us a healthy dose of curiosity in each chapter without revealing important details to us which leaves us in ignorance until the very end.

I have enjoyed reading this book since I like this genre. The writing is quite simple to read, but there are a few paragraphs that require re-reading. Maybe it was just me, but it took me a long time to read the book to fully understand it. My favorite character is Billy. He seems like a good man to me, though he is very timid and strange. His concern for illegal immigrants and drugs was impeccably put on paper by the author. We got to know Billy and the other characters down to the smallest detail, and I like that touch in the book.

I have never read a book that merged the incompatible crime and sci-fi story. The author put together crime and sci-fi elements and created a unique story that he wrapped up with a perfect ending. This book also contains a lot of profane words and a few graphic scenes that some readers might find difficult to read. I have to note that the author originates from Scotland. I have found a few words (offence, for example) that were written in British English. I had to check the information about the author, and I confirmed that this book is written in British English. There is nothing I dislike about the book.

This book is edited well, but I have found more than 10 errors. Those errors did not affect my reading experience, but I would like to see a polished second edition of this book. I am giving Breakers a solid 3 out of 4 stars. This book deserves 4 stars, but I had to deduct one star from rating because of the errors. This is a piece for those who like crime, thriller, and sci-fi all mixed. I would not recommend it to those who are light-hearted and those who cannot stand any graphic scenes. This book is not suitable for children and teenagers.

This seems like a peculiar mix of elements with the crime thriller premises mixed with an "extra" in the creature. I hope the author does another round of proofreading. Thank you for your great review!

This seems like a great book to explore. Now I'm wondering who the creature that killed Denny was, and if Billy would be charged for his murder. Great review.

These are two genres that aren't usually together. For that reason, I think it's interesting enough to look into more. Thanks for a great review.

Dark waters, deaths, and drug-laden yachts?! Now that’s undoubtedly a recipe for some scintillating disaster and nefarious characters on the seas. Thanks for sharing such a delightfully entertaining review! 🛥

A sci-fi crime thriller is unique indeed! I must add a Detective Jack Munro book to my reading list. I’ll have to look into this one. Thanks for a great review!

The process of Dim waters, passings, and medication loaded yachts?! Well that is without a doubt a formula for some glimmering debacle and loathsome characters on the oceans. Much obliged for sharing quite a brilliantly engaging audit!

I normally enjoy books with a beach setting, but I think the combination of thriller and sci-fi might be a bit of a stretch for me. I enjoyed your review though.

I like the way you have described Billy! He is an intriguing character and you have piqued my interest about how he gets out of this dilemma. (Does he?) Thanks for the amazing recommendation.
