Inside Incest Psychotherapy and Energy Healing Transform This Therapist, and a Guide for Survivors by Madeline A Garner is about her journey of healing her trauma. Madeline was sexually abused and neglected from the ages of two months to fifteen years old by her father. She discusses the impact that the sexual abuse from her father and the neglect from her mother had on her mental health, physical health, and emotional health. She discusses her negative self image and how she eventually was able to use her trauma to help heal others by becoming a psychotherapist. She discusses therapeutic interventions and coping skills that helped her heal.

I read this book in three days and it was a page turner! I loved how I was able to get an idea of what the author was feeling throughout her healing journey because she made me feel like I was watching a movie. I lost track of time while reading this book. I liked how she prepped her reader by including disclaimers when she wrote about her trauma. I loved the fact that she took the time to write reflections at the end of each chapter to let the reader know what her thought process is like now and how it is different from her thought process when she was younger. I really enjoyed that because I am a therapist and I do trauma work. She does a great job of bringing back her focus to the present and she was able to make meaning out of her trauma.

The author did a great job of keeping my attention even if there were few grammatical errors. That was the only negative point that I found while reading this book. I cannot say anything bad about this book because it was a great book.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I could not stop reading it. I loved how the author included definitions of each therapeutic intervention that could help the reader if they are struggling with sexual abuse or incest. I could hear the author's passion while reading this book, and her passion inspired me to research some therapeutic interventions that were mentioned in the book.

I recommend this book for survivors of sexual abuse, friends and families of survivors that have been sexually abused, and for anyone working in the mental health field. This book is trauma informed and includes multiple of real life examples of normal thought patterns that a person has when experiencing sexual abuse. I feel like this book would be great for friends and families of survivors because the author does a good job of normalizing her thought patterns when going through the abuse and she includes possible signs to look out for when assessing if someone is going through sexual abuse. The author does a great job of including resources in the back of the book for anyone searching for mental health support. I am blown away with this book because she discusses the stigma of talking about incest being taboo. I learned a lot from her experiences and the resources that she provided.
