Official Review: Power. Stabilized by Cathy Parker
Do you enjoy reading books about action-packed adventures? Are science fiction and fantasy your favorite literary genres? Do you want to read a story with a strong female lead capable of saving and destroying an entire solar system? If so, Power. Stabilized, written by Cathy Parker, is the perfect book for you. Power. Stabilized is the final book of Parker’s fantasy trilogy, Power Rising. The trilogy tells the story of Shannon Kendricks, a strong woman with exceptional powers.
The story begins as Shannon receives a message from Salesti stating that Roebor, a wise dragonpanther, is in deep trouble. In order to save one of her dearest friends, Shannon passes through the portal to travel to FireWorld, a world populated by magnificent dragonpanthers. On FireWorld, Shannon Kendricks faces many struggles as she tries her best to free Roebor from captivity. When left with no other choice, Shannon makes a big sacrifice by offering Roebor to leave his body and transfer his consciousness to the Great Room, constructed by Shannon in her mind to “engage with alien spirits.”
On her way back to Earth, Shannon Kendricks faces a horrible tragedy, the death of Salesti, another dear friend of Shannon. Salesti, although very tiny, possesses immense power, which she transfers to Shannon before passing away. Soon, Shannon learns that the power of Salesti is capable of destroying the planet as well as the entire solar system. Shannon Kendricks embarks on a journey, searching for a solution while fighting through numerous obstacles. In case she fails, she may have to sacrifice her life.
There are many things that I liked about Power. Stabilized. It is evident that Cathy Parker put a lot of effort into character development. Most of all, I liked Shannon’s character. She was strong and heroic while remaining relatable. She was loyal and caring and always helped her friends when they needed her. I also loved Luke’s character. He stood by Shannon’s side no matter what, even when she tried to push him away. I think that Shannon and Luke may have a positive effect on young readers.
There are a few minor things that I disliked about the book. I didn’t enjoy Roebor’s character. Most of the time, he seemed very dull and boring. I would say that Roebor seemed a little bit out of place when compared to the rest of the characters. I wasn’t too fond of the names of the creatures, such as dragonpanther and crocodile-tyrannosaurus rex. I believe that Parker could be more creative when naming these creatures. It is also important to note that the book cannot be read as a standalone as the story is heavily based on the previous books. For example, it would be hard to understand what the author meant by saying that “Shannon cast her colors” without reading the previous books. However, I find these issues very insignificant.
I would rate Power. Stabilized 4 out of 4 stars. The book was captivating, and I liked most of the characters. Power. Stabilized is packed with action and kept me wondering what will happen next. I enjoyed the fact that the book had several interesting plot twists and an unexpected ending. Power. Stabilized was professionally edited, and I did not notice any mistakes. I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys science fiction, fantasy, and adventure. I believe that the book is well-suited for readers who are twelve or older.
