Review by Arisha Fatima -- Living Forward After Loss
Kathleen ho for the first time reveals herself as a writer by launching her stunning book titled, "Living forward after loss: rebuilding your life after losing your life partner.” Exceptionally, she has done a great job by expressing her thoughts in much a realistic and rational way. She has not written this book just to share her feelings, but to encourage and motivate her readers to take their pain as an opportunity for them to grow up instead of growing down.
The book is about her experience of the meantime that she faced by the death of her husband David, and the way she overcame her pain and took her grief as an opportunity for her to improve and upgrade herself. In this book, Kathleen comes up with some tips, advices and steps that are extremely helpful for the people who are going through the pain of losing their loved ones. According to Kathleen, recognizing and facing your grief is the first step in this journey. Then comes the time to feel and honor your grief, because repressing your grief doesn’t let your wound heal. In fact, it becomes more painful. So, if you want to get your wound heal and feel relieved then let your sorrow come out in the form of mourning. Afterwards, you should take your hardship as a means to find light when there is darkness all around you. It helps you to have a positive approach towards life by understanding the reason of everything. By doing so, you’ll be able to have a more purposeful life afterwards. In a nutshell, Kathleen shares her journey of enlightenment and inner peace that she achieved by utilizing her pain and hopes the same for the people who are going through or have gone through the same situation.
There is a lot of positivity in this book and honestly, I didn’t find any negative point in the book. The writing style and professional editing reveals the intellectual maturity of the writer. Kathleen has used brief and simple phrases that are completely understandable. She has used so many motivational quotes and phrases with their rational and logical explanations. She has created a good balance between sentiments and rationality. I personally liked the way she started every chapter with a quotation, so that the reader may not feel down at any point. She has done a great use of anecdotes and statistics to persuade the readers logically and to make them continue reading. I gained so much significant information from this book as well as a better understanding of the different phenomena.
Kathleen has organized and edited the book excellently and I didn’t find any significant error except one spelling error. The use of references and citation is also applaudable as it guarantees the authenticity of the text. So, I'll grant this book 4 out of 4 stars.
“Living forward after loss: rebuilding your life after losing your life partner” is highly suitable for the ones who are suffering from any big loss in their lives like the death of a loved one. Especially, this book is for those who have lost their interest in living a normal and happy life anymore and are fed up of it. If you are having the same then I’ll recommend you to take a chance and read this book. I’m sure that this book will leave a positive impact on you by motivating you to work on yourself.
