Living Forward After Loss is a book written by Kathleen Ho. This novel delves into the life of the author after she lost her husband of 10 years due to a stroke. The author strategically explored what she went through when her husband was struggling with his life and what became of her after he died. Additionally, Kathleen disclosed that she wrote this book to find healing, and subsequently to help those mourning find peace and meaning to life again. This book has 8 chapters, and each examines relevant topics that can help a grieving person pull through the period of excruciating pain. On the other hand, Kathleen dedicated a chapter on how to aid a grieving person.

Seeing that Living Forward After Loss is about something inevitable, there are many positive things about it. The first is the mind-lifting quotes incorporated at the start of each chapter and also at other necessary points in some chapters. Another thing that stood out for me was the way Kathleen emphasized the connection she had with her husband and the good memories they shared. It reinforced my belief that a good relationship is a beautiful thing. I also appreciated that the author disclosed the negative effects of trying to deal with grief by smoking, drinking alcohol, or by jumping into an intimate relationship (after losing a lover), as many people are guilty of these. Finally, a lot of persons, including me, do not know how to support a grieving person, and fortunately, I got enlightened after reading the chapter that explored this, and to think that the author gave practical examples on how it can be carried out is a plus for interested readers.

Although this did not affect my rating of Living Forward After Loss, the only thing I found negative about this book are the few grammatical errors that I discovered. At the points where I came across these errors, I found them confusing and had to re-read such lines to assimilate properly.

Due to the informative nature of this book, particularly the fact that I understood how to help a grieving person, and also since this novel seemed professionally edited, I'll gladly rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

This self-help book will appeal to those who lost a loved one to death and persons who want to arm themselves with knowledge concerning helping a grieving person, and as such, I recommend it to them.

I am glad she admits all negative effects on trying to overcome the death of her husband. This will encourage someone who is going through the same to turn their life around.
