Official Review: Dragon Guardian Chronicles: by Dawn Nolen
“Protecting the eggs was easy before. She just had to keep them hidden.” Was protecting the eggs going to be possible? Dragon Guardian Chronicles: Journey of the Dragon Queen by Dawn Nolen is a science fiction fantasy novel. The novel describes the journey of Miyako as she attempts to protect the dragon eggs. Will she be successful as more and more people learn of her task? Who will help her and who will try to get in her way? Who can she trust?
Miyako is a strong Japanese woman. She ran away from her family because she did not want to have an arranged marriage. She was tasked by the Cinders to protect the dragon eggs. Throughout the story Miyako showed not only her strength, but her dedication to the Cinders and saving the eggs. She worked hard to keep her task a secret. She was one of my favorite characters because she was true to herself, strong, and dedicated. She worked hard to protect those around her. The characters in the book that centered around Miyako showed the same dedication and strength.
The characters were well-developed, as was the scenery. The reader could easily place themselves in the story. The author did a good job of describing where the characters were and what they were doing. The book is full of twists and turns and leaves the reader wondering what will happen next. As far as the content of the story, there was not really anything I did not like. I liked all the characters as well. My only issue with this book was the editing and grammar.
This book needs a good round of editing. The story is not always concise and is often repetitive. There are many spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. The story has the potential to be good, but many of the thoughts come out a bit choppy. Therefore, the story does not always flow very well. Editing would correct any of these problems. With that being said, the story is interesting. I read the book in its entirety in two sittings and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. The book has tons of potential. Based on the need for editing and the numerous errors, I give the book 2 out of 4 stars.
I recommend the book to anyone who enjoys science fiction and fantasy. It is appropriate for all ages. It is written so that young and old alike can understand and enjoy the story. There is no sexual content, and the language is acceptable for any age.
