The Vanished by Pejay Bradley takes place in a time when Japanese occupation of Korea was happening. In a extraordinary place a young mother of nobility gives birth to a son named Embon. Faced with many changes as a young student Embon who is given opportunities in advanced studies far from the divide of the turbulent times that left an area that was occupied disparaged and the foundation rattled. Finding himself and reaching to new heights, a terrible incident leads to questions and ultimately a series of events and an illness. Fighting all along for independence and reflection of self. The journey of human connections and survival as the human connections give over to many new aquantinces and strengthing bonds as with Lady Sougyon Enbom's Mother the fight for independence is instilled. Emotions and purpose can have a unexpected result as Embon sees many things including friends going away.

I love the vivid details as each new place becomes a beautiful back drop to the story setting. Learning about Korean culture and traditions will forever be enriching. The writer gives a glimpse into each characters life that they become the story.I especially loved all of the gems placed throughout the story, yes the adornment of jewels aided in my understanding of nobility, but the quotes and meanings of the traditions enriched my soul.

If realizations of the toll that a way of life could take on individuals and shape the way they proceed throughout their lifetimes, meaningful moments in a young persons life is worth it's weight in gold and Embon has experienced life in these moments and shared them with a father that was absent in a big way. The working with what has been passed down to the generations can be more than enough tools to give the chances for change. A newly budding romance can be seen even though some relationships are pre planned. Working hard to make it everyday was a life for some during the Occupation of Korea and being in a group of people that were protecting and fighting for independence was the hope.
I would like to say my only dislike was the book felt like it was over to fast. I give this novel a Four out of Four stars for me. I didn't find any problems with typos.

I recommend this Historical Fiction story to anyone who wants to learn more about what happened during the Japan- Korea Annexation. Anyone who loves reading and reading about human connections and Korean culture, and traditions. Countryside and means of travel in a country that was seeking independence after it was occupied by another. The content is free of profanity and strong sexual references.
