The Demon of the Well by James B. Hendricks is written in a poetic-narrative form and in a rhyming carefully chosen words. It is about a yellow demon that an aged trader encounter in his early years while traveling to find a magical chalice with the two-travelling soldier-brothers whom he met when they are finding their way to the desert spring. the two soldier’s greed overtake them and started to kill each other and the magic chalice fall into the water and soon the yellow demon appeared. This is a story within a story telling the tales of the greed, scheme, and reclamation. The first part revolves on the story-telling of the past and the second part revolves to the present time of the trader in which he shared his story to a young boy whom he’d ask to go with him to redeem what was once lost.

The first thing that I have noticed in The Demon of the Well is the poetic and rhyming writing setup. I was using a reader app and it sound so good to listen to. This approach of writing also is a unique way for a sci-fi genre and it does really give off a legend vibe in it like how an oral story was told. Moreover, Hendricks mentioned that it took him very nearly twenty years to have all the lines and refrains in the correct spots. This long-term measure appeared in the quality and consistency of the rhymes.

The author introduced the development of his thoughts, giving the reader some information like the portrayals of every individuals in the book, views, and settings are additionally flawless and distinctive. It also helped to built the momentum on reading the story. The quick pace of the writing keeps the readers like me engaged in it. Also, the way he addresses the characters are quite unique in which he addresses the characters by their occupations and not by names.

I absolutely recommend this to all ages who would like to read a one-of-a-kind, mesmerizing poem and a story of an adventure. The editing is superb and I have not found any error in it; whether it may in grammar or spelling. I would like to give this book a 4 out of 4 stars rating. I’d like to thank the author and the publishers for a good book I had received for this review.
