Official Review: The Next Level Forgiver by CL Holley
Forgiveness is not only a favor we grant to others but also to ourselves. It is a path of emotional healing, and we must embrace it. Unforgiveness hurts us more than it hurts our offenders.
The Next Level Forgiver was written by C.L. Holley. This non-fiction book demonstrated the effects of unforgiveness and how it could poison our emotional state. The author, C.L. Holley, gave practical steps to giving and receiving forgiveness. He revealed some levels of forgiveness and how we could climb to the topmost level of forgiveness.
Through his struggle with bitterness and unforgiveness, C.L. Holley and his wife, Cassandra, learned how to forgive others. Therefore, this book revealed the secrets of how to forgive, which they learned in their seasons of pain.
People have betrayed and offended me in the past. But after reading this practical book, I understood that forgiveness was not about the offender but me. I had to apply the steps given by the author of this book, and they worked for me.
I had not learned the subject of forgiveness and unforgiveness like the author had taught it in this book. One positive thing about the book was that it was written with practical examples of people’s experiences. Each of the issues discussed by the writer was illustrated with a practical example from someone who went through the same experience of unforgiveness and sorrow.
With these brief illustrations, I was able to address my situation. For me, this style used by the writer made the book quite relatable. The tale of Jeneva particularly touched me.
The thing I liked most about the book was that the author did not hide his pains and mistakes too. He used his own painful experiences to show how to overcome unforgiveness. Most writers ignore the importance of sharing their hurts.
However, the author ensured that he avoided sounding theoretical to his audience. For example, throughout the book, he shared moments of pain and joy, which his family went through. These experiences almost changed his view of God.
What I found very negative about this book was that it was not formatted correctly. Some sentences were merged after placing a period in the end. In other words, there should have been spacing between some sentences. To an extent, this lack of proper formatting affected the readability of the text.
I did not find enough grammatical and punctuation errors that should warrant a deduction of a star. However, I would remove a star due to the issue of formatting. Therefore, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I could not remove another star because I still consider it edited professionally.
I recommend this book to those who desire to grant forgiveness to others but lack the knowledge of how to give it. The book will also suit those who were betrayed, abused, divorced, and abandoned, as it tends to reveal a better attitude in such situations.
