Sock Lobsters by Michelle Bulriss is a sweet children’s story about a magical pair of socks. An elderly woman knits a pair of socks that look like lobsters for her adult granddaughter, Emily. The socks are made of magic yarn. When Emily opens the box, the socks speak to her. The left sock is named Sebastian and the right sock is named Lola. During a trip to the laundromat, Lola accidentally falls out of the basket and is left behind. Sebastian and Emily do not notice Lola missing until they return home. Will Sebastian and Emily be able to find their missing friend?

I liked many things about this book. The story is original and adorable. The author put a lot of great lessons into this story. Sebastian and Lola have opposite personalities, but they are still best friends. They love to do everything together. The author teaches the reader that anything is possible if you work together. When Lola is missing, Sebastian goes through the stages of grief. I feel this is an important part of life, and this is a gentle way to teach children about a difficult topic. Furthermore, Lola is scared and sad when she gets left alone. The author offers ways to calm down and be hopeful. Keeping calm in a scary situation is a very valuable lesson for children to learn. There are some sad parts in this book, but the story has a happy ending. The characters stay hopeful and do not give up. This book touches on so many important topics.

The only minor thing I disliked about this book is that there are about seven pages in the middle of the book that have almost identical illustrations. I feel that the illustrations could have been more diverse to help keep the interest of young readers. Otherwise, I liked everything about this book.

I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I did not find a single editing error. My one minor complaint was not reason enough to deduct a star. This was a charming and heartwarming story with unique and loveable characters.

I would recommend this book to parents, grandparents, and teachers to share with their children and grandchildren. It’s a cute and educational story.

Sebastian and Lola have contrasting personalities, but they are still close friends. They love doing everything together. The author teaches the reader that anything is possible if you work together. When Lola goes missing, Sebastian goes through the stages of grief. I feel this is an important part of life, and this is a nice way to teach children about a difficult subject. Additionally, Lola feels fear and sadness when she is left alone. The author provides ways to calm down and find hope. Keeping calm in scary situations is an extremely valuable lesson that children must learn. There are some sad parts in this book, but the story has a happy ending. The characters remain optimistic and don't give up. This book addresses many important themes.
