Matthew Tysz introduces us to his ongoing novel series, We are Voulhire, with this first novel titled We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. It is a fantasy novel. The novel is narrated in the author's point of view, which is a third-person point of view, and Galen’s point of view, which is a first-person point of view. The author says that Galen is the protagonist of the novel but in this first novel of the series, he does little things to prove that he deserves to be the protagonist.

Galen Bray goes on a voyage from the Lands of the Princes to the prosperous kingdom of Voulhire. The rulers of the Lands of the Princes are at war with each other which makes this area unsuitable for survival of humans, and that is why Galen leaves this land. Galen meets Rowan, his uncle’s executor, when he arrives in Voulhire. Rowan helps Galen to explore this new land. Hillport, a small town on the southern part of Voulhire, gets a new lord. The lord succeeds a famous general and strong mage called Meldorath. The reasons why Meldorath is removed from lordship are not clear, and he is a big threat and very influential to the people of Voulhire. The king of Voulhire convinces the people that this general is dead, but is he really dead?

The thing that I liked most about the novel was the way how the author builds the theme of dance. Dancing acts as a unifying factor for the people of Voulhire and even its rivals. The plot of the novel is well built from the beginning. The novel is very unpredictable and creates suspense in the reader’s mind. The novel was exceptionally well edited, and I did not come across any error while I was reading.

The thing that I disliked about the novel is that it contains gruesome scenes. These scenes involve killing of innocent people, which I did not like.

I rate the novel 4 out of 4 stars because it was well edited and its plot was really fascinating. The novel lacks erotic scenes but has many profane words. The novel is not suitable for young audiences because of the presence of profane words and gruesome scenes. I recommend the novel to readers of magic and fantasy novels. The series are promising, and l am eager to get the second novel.
