Good Stock by Marilyn L. Thompson is a non-fiction book focusing on the life and teachings of her father, Grover C. Thompson, Jr. The author emphasizes the importance of family. By learning your family history, you can develop a sense of pride in who you are. Thompson begins with a history of her ancestors in South Carolina. The history includes photographs and a family tree. The book is organized very well. Although the author provides a range of family history covering several people, the focus of the book is on the life of her father.

Grover Cleveland Thompson, Jr., nicknamed Buddy, was born in 1919 in Kershaw County, South Carolina. He is described as a hardworking man who raised a large family. He instilled important lessons about life and religion in his children from a young age. The book is filled with memories from the author. The book also introduces each of the author’s siblings and includes a brief biography and photo. Each sibling provides their favorite childhood memories. It is obvious that Mr. Thompson was a loved and respected member of the family and the community.

What I liked most about the book were the personal stories told by each of the siblings. This gave the book a very personal touch from different perspectives. Each sibling had their own section of the book. The author provided photographs and personal information regarding occupations and children. Their father emphasized education and religion in his teachings and his children followed the example he set.

This is a concise book of seventy-eight pages. However, it provides a significant amount of historical information about this family that will benefit future generations. I recommend this book to anyone interested in researching their family history. It shows readers how to incorporate memories and facts into a historical document. Future generations with an interest in their ancestors will benefit from this book. It is a great way to present a family history with photographs and interesting facts about individual family members. There was nothing I disliked about this book.

I don't believe the book was professionally edited. There are several errors in the book that prevent me from giving it a perfect score. For that reason, I give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. The author did an excellent job of providing a family history and personal memories of growing up in South Carolina. As stated previously, I would recommend this book to anyone interested in researching their own family history. This book could provide guidance on presenting research and incorporating personal memories for future generations. I would also recommend this book to readers with an interest in family relationships or growing up in South Carolina.

If one is interested in reading family history then this can be a good choice. It sounds lovely that each sibling has their own section with their own stories to tell. However, I would be skipping this one. Thank you for a concise review!
