We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz, is the first book in the Voulhire series and this series consists of nine books. It describes the country, Voulhire, and also focuses on Galen bray, an immigrant who left his war-scarred home and has moved to Voulhire, where he learns about his new country, magic, and every other thing happening around him.

The story begins in Hillport, where the Lord of Hillport, Lord Orlin is arrested by his magistrate, Meldorath, for crimes he did against children in his castle. Meldorath becomes the new Lord of Hillport, but under three months, he too is arrested for a crime he committed. A new Lord is sent to Hillport, Lord Eldus by the King of Voulhire, King Wilhelm.
Despite all the things the people of Hillport have experienced in the hands of two Lords, they give the new Lord, Lord Eldus and his family, a chance and choose to trust him. Unknown to all of them, all they had experienced is just the beginning; not in the hands of the new Lord, but in the hands of a former Lord who is interested in doing anything and everything just to gain power. How far are they willing to reach their goal? Read this book to find out!

What I loved about this book was how the author painted Lord Eldus into a man we all hope will lead our country someday; a man so interested in his people and his kingdom. Lord Eldus thought of ways to improve the life of his citizens. He also went as far as visiting those who were affected by the previous Lord’s actions. This character is rare in our country, and although this is fiction, it was nice to imagine how beautiful it will be to have a man like him in the affairs of our country. Another thing I loved about this book was the absence of error and the author’s writing style. I also loved how the author made sure a glossary of terms, concepts and names unique to this story was made available for the readers. That way, a reader won’t be lost in the story whenever they come across a strange word.

What I didn’t like about this book were the lengthy descriptions. I understand that this was an introduction to the Voulhire series, hence the need for descriptions, but some were quite lengthy and boring. Another thing I didn’t like in this book was the few times a vulgar word was used. I found their usage unnecessary.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Matthew Tysz did a good job and this book was remarkably well-edited. No error was observed while reading. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a fantasy series. It involves magic, a different world, and all that. I recommend this book to the mature lovers of fantasy series, those who love magic, science and spirituality. The use of sexual words was observed in few places and this can be overlooked.
