Review of The Devil Pulls the Strings
[Following is a volunteer review of "The Devil Pulls the Strings" by J. W. Zarek.]
In the novel THE DEVIL PULLS THE STRINGS, J. W. ZAREK gives a narration in the present continuous tense through a first-person perspective. The novel starts with a prologue whereby professor Stone instructs Laureus to steal a scroll from the domovoi and later on to kill Flynn. After Flynn is badly injured during the joust, he requests his friend Boone to take up his place at the Village Fools band during a performance set to take place in New York City. When Boone arrives in the city, he misses death by a whisker, and together with Sapphire, they go through a blood-chilling experience as they prepare to perform at the Saturday gig. Zarek takes the reader through a thrilling experience of time traveling, magic, betrayal, deaths, immortal beings, fights, and unusual human beings.
The positive part of this book is that it is written in simple English which is easy to comprehend. Zarek makes sure that after every word he gives the reader grit to read more without stopping for instance by the use of dream and journey motif, the reader anticipates to know what would happen next, for example; what did Boone find? Was he killed? Who is Sinti? Did Flynn get well? By exploring Boone's thoughts, feelings, and waking dreams, Zarek succeeds in creating a vivid illustration of Boone's experience, thus reading this book feels like a waking experience for the reader.
The negative aspect of the novel is depicted in how the author gives his characters the ability to measure biological features, for example; the ability of Boones to know that his Adrenaline rises from Zero to Sixty. However, on the positive side, it gives more flesh to the book and illustrates the unusual nature of Boone.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because Zarek does a perfect fusion of fairytales to make a masterpiece novel which once you start reading, you hold your breath and you do not want to stop reading until the last word and finally gently breathe out. THE DEVIL PULLS THE STRINGS proves that even in the contemporary world that is almost entirely run with Artificial Intelligence, still; medieval technologies are useful and should be kept.
I recommend this novel to be used as a scholarly literature text; this is because the author makes perfect use of literary and symbolic language and figures. The author makes a perfect blend of features of literature; this is are the brilliant characteristics of academic literary texts.

One of the most striking aspects of the book is its world-building. The descriptions of the various locations in the book are vivid and immersive, making it easy to picture the settings in your mind. The book also explores complex themes such as power, morality, and loyalty, which add depth and complexity to the story. Great review.
