In The Hundredth Time Around by Stacy Lee, Emma and Cassidy are best friends from college, ready for their summer getaway. Their plan in their twenties is to meet friends and celebrate their post-college life. Cassidy is ready for a fresh start after struggling with mental health and brain functioning issues after a tragic accident. She quickly meets Sean and his grandfather, Gerry, where she finds solitude in their companionship. She and Sean’s relationship grow as summer comes to an end. Years pass and Cassidy moves on with her fiancé, Colton. Gerry's death brings Cassidy back for the summer and she wonders if she will see Sean. Little does she know, a family secret is about to rock her world. Will it bring Cassidy and Sean together or tear them apart?

I loved this story! The characters were complex with many layers. I grew to love Cassidy and the story of her accident. I kept wanting more, and the author was very thorough. The book was well written and the characters had strong development. The author did an amazing job balancing foreshadowing and tying all of the loose ends together. Further, there was a lot of symbolism in the text. I would be interested in reading a novel about each of the characters in the book. I appreciated that the bulk of the text was about their complex love as opposed to erotic writing. It gives the romance novel much more depth.

I have little negative thoughts about this book. At first, I thought the romance writing was a little cheesy, but I quickly realized it was intentional foreshadowing. The author moved from different characters in different time periods to keep the reader turning pages. Technically, the book is categorized as a romance novel, but more importantly, it is a great story. I wouldn’t want readers to be deterred by the romantic aspect.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I was reading at all hours of the day because I couldn’t get enough. The book was so much more than a romance novel, with strong symbolic themes and complex characters. A perfect summer read!

I would recommend this to many types of readers. People who like to read from many characters’ points of view will love it. Further, there is a historical edge to the text to make it more complex. The book has no noticeable errors. There is borderline profanity and mild sexual content.
