Fifty Shades of Grey just because it does not change the plot too much like the other books do. 3 reasons why also did well as the whole people was divided into seasons for better understanding.

Arrival directed by Denis Villeneuve was an absolute treat for sci-fi lovers because of the unusual plot, acting and most importantly, the visuals. I later found out that it was based on the short story, "Story of Your Life" (a science fiction novella) by American writer Ted Chiang. I read this short story as soon as I found out about it. The short story and the movie are nearly similar except that the movie has added some extra but praiseworthy scenes for a more dramatic feel.
I think this movie is a great adaptation of this short story.

As far as the movie adaptation of a full length book is concerned, I liked reading and watching The Girl with the dragon tattoo (a book written by Stieg Larsson). I have seen both the Swedish (starring Noomi Rapace) and the English (starring Rooney Mara) versions. Even though I don't understand Swedish and saw the Swedish movie with the help of English subtitles, I personally prefer the Swedish version because the place and the language sounded natural. Additionally, the Swedish version is a more faithful adaptation of the book.

I'd say it was a terrible adaptation of a book, but can be considered a good movie regardless. I still don't like the movie though, but I don't mind if anyone thinks differently.

I think that the best example of adaptation of a book to a movie is the movie "Sense and Sensibility" (1995), where Emma Thompson not only plays the leading role but also is the screenwriter.

The BBC version of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle is the same. Perfectly cast, it captures the flow and wit of Jane Austen's finest work exactly.

Pride and prejudice is my favorite movie and book i love it however I haven't seen the BBC version of it even Keira Knightley has done a great job with her version of it

a walk to remember by Nicholas Sparks, mandy moor has done a great job playing jamie, and pride and prejudice the recent one of kiera knightly and I forgot the name of the actor who played Mr Darcy but he was the best out of the three movies

fight club ! they made it almost exactly to the book, with the narrator saying the exact lines from the book. the ending of the movie was different but even the author agrees the movies ending is better than the books ending

The three idiots. It is a bollywood movie which is based on the book The Three Mistakes of my Life by Chetan Bhagat. Book was completely hopeless, however the movie broke all records; it was so good. It is based on life of engineers and presents the hardships and challenges in humorous manner.

Reel size isn't that huge enough to absorb the character's most inner feelings and flow. I have this habit to read first and watch later funda. No one asks me to watch movie but still I used to be curious about what loop has been missed. And blah.... Always find something curse on me for digging deep comparison with two different platforms. I really liked the adaptations of the memoir "Wild" and the autobiography of Johnny Cash. Also, "12 Years a Slave" was sooo much more powerful as a movie than the book, in my opinion.
