War and love are a mixture of roughness and tenderness, It's interesting to read, where a woman's struggle to find a partner, and marry happily, but always constrained by old-fashioned situations, the author is very creative combining love with war, grief, and loss, as well as meeting with new, worthy collections

Unfortunately, it is difficult to create surprising and new plot twists in some genres as they mostly have a fixed structure. I usually enjoy historical novels, though romance, especially not innovative, isn't really my thing.

Not the Same Water by Karen Black is a historical romance novel consisting of five different parts, which are bound to well-known historical incidents. The author has created a set of imaginary characters placing their stories inside of past real-life events. The mixture of reality and make-believe is intriguing, as I enjoyed learning about the historical background. It was fascinating to imagine how the world looked like in those days when there were no cell phones or internet available, and women could not do what they wanted. Instead of making a career, they were supposed to dedicate their lives to finding an appropriate man to marry and raise a family. The descriptions of women's clothing were utterly fascinating, and learning about the traces of unwritten social rules felt rather incredible.

All of those tiny details that authors include and that create a picture of a different time in our minds are my favorite part of reading historical novels. We all know about the big battles or huge political events, but not, for example, about women's clothing. Amazing! Thank you!

"Not the Same Water" by Karen Black - Karen Black has written an intriguing story of life in a bygone era. She has thoroughly researched the history of the time and creates her characters within that period. The reader learns much about dress, moral codes, and the conventions of the day. The opening contains an exciting account of a pleasure ship sinking in a lake and introduces us to the protagonists. Thanks for the review.
