Island Games written by Caleb J. Boyer is a young adult thriller. This book will surprise you in many ways. When I started reading this book, I came across a fact that the author was merely a twelve-year-old kid when he wrote Island Games. It surprised me and at the same time, I was inspired by him. I am 27 but it didn’t stop me from finding this story captivating. The simple language used in this book makes it easier to understand even for kids.

The two protagonists Mathew & Ryan, are two best friends who find themselves trapped on a deserted island with no prior memory. Now all they needed was to survive and find out an escape. They figured that the basic things they need to survive are food and water. And in search of these, they faced many hurdles. There are strange and dangerous creatures waiting for them in their journey through the 4 quadrants. With no unity, they might die. So, all they need to do is to stick together till the end.

Their friendship and trust for each other throughout the journeys is commendable. This story will teach you the true meaning of friendship and the basic life lessons which are enough for survival. It is surprisingly impressive that a child can understand so many things at such a small age. And with this, I have the only flaw of the story which didn’t interrupt the flow but it confused me a bit.

I am confused about the age of the two protagonists. They seemed from different age groups at different times. Was it intentional or was it just a mere mistake, I am not sure but it didn’t bother me much. And yes the ending was a bit odd for me but it was a great lesson learnt.

It was a well-written book. I haven’t found a mistake. I did not find any grammatical error or profanity in this book. I would give this story 4 out 4 stars. This story is simple but intriguing.

I would recommend this book to school libraries, orphanages and to all those parents who have children of age group 10 to 16. I would suggest them to read this story with their kids to enjoy a great and inspiring adventure. You and your kid will learn a lot from this, together.
