Andrew M. Cruz’s book Goldie and Me is based on a true story and follows the events of the Cruz family before and after the death of the author’s father Charles. The story is told in the first person, with the author as the narrator. The content of the book is divided into three major parts and nine chapters. The book also includes photographs of the Cruz family as well as various documents that the author considered important.

The large, successful, and rather harmonious Cruz family is shaken by the death of the author's mother Evette. Shortly afterward, to everyone's surprise, the author's father Charles decides to remarry. The newly chosen one of his heart was a woman significantly younger than him. Mutual intolerance between most of the wider Cruz family and their father's new wife soon surfaced. Doubting the true motives of the marriage between his stepmother and father, the author begins to call her Goldie as a nickname of the gold-digger. After the death of his father and husband Charles, the intolerance between the two sides culminated in mutual lawsuits, which concerned the division of property. The third part of the book is mostly composed of the records from the trial.

There are few things I like in the book Goldie and Me and the most significant of them certainly is lesson it carries. Namely, the book acquaints readers in great detail with the consequences that vagueness, ambiguity, and insufficient attention can cause. This is especially emphasized in the sphere of property.

On the other hand, there are many more things in the book Goldie and Me that I don't like. The entire book is devoid of any artistic beauty and it seems as if the author's personal revenge was the only motive for its writing and publishing. For the most part, only one side of the story is shown. The book is full of repetitions, and spelling mistakes are not uncommon. The author and narrator accuse his stepmother Goldie of selfishness, although, as the executor of Last Will and Testament, he himself tries to get as much inheritance as possible for his brothers and himself. Some of the author's claims seem to be taken out of context and placed tendentiously.

With all of the above in mind, the decision on how to rate Goldie and Me was very complex. My final judgment is to rate the book with two out of four stars. Frequent repetition, bias, and uninteresting significantly go beyond the instructive side of the book.

I would recommend the book to fans of legal topics. I do not recommend the book to readers of fragile concentration. Due to the occasional use of profane words and the seriousness of the topic, I believe that the book is not intended for younger readers.

I’m glad that you gave such an honest review. I won’t with it since you had such problems. Mr. Cruz seems to be very petty and concerned with himself and his siblings.

I would rather say that the author saw things only from his own angle. However, the book also has positive sides, such as emphasizing family values. Thanks for stopping by.

It is strange that the author have the entire third part consisting of trial details. That would just make it seem like a record of family feud instead of an engaging memoir.

I hate it when there's too much repetition in a book. It reflects badly on the author's creativity.

Thanks for the review. I didn't expect 'Goldie' to be a nickname for golddigger. It's a shame that the book had so many repetitions.

Unfortunately you are right. However, I believe that the book also has positive sides, for example a lesson about the need to be careful with whom and on what basis one enters into marital waters.

I myself did not expect such a personal tone in the book. However, I believe that the book has its instructive side. Thanks for the comment.

It seems like the author was very emotional when he wrote this book. I'm sure he was very distraught by losing both of his parents and dealing with a new person in his life. I hope he was eventually able to settle any differences he had with his stepmother.

Thank you for your honest review.
