Review of Chameleons
Zia Lennox is a young, intelligent, beautiful literary agent. She’s looking for the next best-selling book to advance her career. She has anxiety when meeting new people and has sworn off dating after a bad break-up. As fate would have it, she encounters two men on the same day who would completely change her life. Zia meets Bryce Fink, a handsome, charming investment banker, on the elevator of their office building. When Zia opens her emails, she finds an amazing literary query from Baxter Leopold, a novice crime-thriller author. Bryce wants to love her. Baxter wants to own her. Zia notices that Baxter’s novel is unnervingly similar to the murders reported in the news. Is Baxter just an author or is he writing about his crimes? Zia is falling in love with Bryce and lust with Baxter. She is caught in a deadly love triangle.
In Chameleons by Onyx Gold, is anyone who they seem to be? The characters are complex and well-developed. The author describes the people, places, events, and emotions so well that the reader is enthralled and unable to put the book down. Some parts of the book seem predictable until Ms. Gold adds an unforeseen plot twist. The novel is told in the third person but moves seamlessly between characters. Gold effortlessly moves from erotic sex with Baxter to heartfelt love with Bryce. Gory details of Baxter’s novel lead Zia to investigate him. She discovers his true identity, homicidal crimes, and insane master plan for their future. I don’t want to be a spoiler, so I will only say that I didn’t see that coming.
My favorite character is Jazz. She is a true and faithful friend. She gives Zia great advice and always looks out for her. Of course, Jazz is more than what she seems to be. I was pleasantly surprised.
There is nothing I didn’t like about this book. Zia seems to hit the lottery. She meets the perfect man to love. She also finds the novelist that will skyrocket her career. Then, the unpredictable and inconceivable happens. Hot, steamy sex, romantic love, true friendship, office gossip, murder, psychopathic thoughts, and plot surprises galore make this book a thriller.
This is most definitely an adult-only book. There is explicit sex, graphic violence, and a glimpse into the mind of a homicidal psychopath. I enthusiastically rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The descriptive writing style and compelling storyline keep the reader turning pages. I look forward to reading more works by Onyx Gold.
