FBI Inspector by Jay Dubya is a fiction short stories collection. This book has 25 of these stories and they are very diverse. All of the stories are detective fiction.

The investigations are going on mainly in the mind of the detective; they are all written in a sort of a “Sherlock Holmes” manner. The way that the detective thinks and uses his deduction is pretty interesting to observe. The detective is trying to think like a criminal; to do that he is using all of the possible areas imaginable like arithmetics, medical skills, visualization of the possible crime scene, etc…

The book really shows the practical experience of the detectives and how actually hard it is to investigate. It requires you to have an insane amount of knowledge in any field, and in any area of life. Due to that, the book focuses primarily on the thoughts of the detective. In many situations, the book really lacks some action and drive. And some of its short stories are getting just boring in some places due to the lack of activity, especially the stories like “Boardwalk Mania”, “Calendar Man” and ”Missing Persons”. Although I think the book was planned to be so. So, I don’t think this is an objectively negative side of the book; it is more of my subjective opinion. Also, a thing that jumped into my eye was the fact of Joe’s inability to cooperate with his teammates. In many situations, it feels like the knowledge that he has is just enough to solve a case if he would just address it to his workmates, but he never does that, I felt a little confused by that when I‘ve read the book.

Although the book has a lot of good short stories, and they are the majority. I liked them especially for their humorous nature due to one of the characters. The stories that I found most enjoyable to read were “A Concerted Effort” and ”Too Much Monkey Business”.

I didn’t find any errors in the book.

I recommend this book to those who don’t seek some long thoughtful novels and just wish to relax by reading a piece of a short story; this book might fit them. I rate this book 4 out of 4 due to the content it offers, it is really good in some places, and I liked this book due to its quality style of description of the thoughts of the criminals and of the detective himself. The way that the author thinks about the crime scenes and their investigation is very enjoyable.
