God’s Spiritual Warrior’s Promises Handbook by Dr. Rocky Spencer is a book that reminds Christians of the promises and bonds they share with their creator, God. In this book, God reminds Christians of His existence and how He ensures that their requests are granted. God gave man the free will to make their decisions and take any path they desire, which the author considers to be the reason why sin still creeps into the lives of supposed Christians. Even at that, He reminds us that His infinite mercies are abundant for all sinners who eventually come back to Him. All He wants us to do is to retrace our steps back to Him.

The forty promises contained in this book are intended to be read in forty days. That is, reading one of the promises is sufficient for each day for forty days. Each of the promises is introduced with a bible verse that resonates with that promise. Some biblical stories, like the story of Absalom attempting to kill David, were narrated to reiterate how God has intervened in the lives of those who served Him in biblical times. The first-person perspective was used in the book to convey the promises that were being made.

As someone who identifies as Christian, I would say that I was pleased with the book. It’s something that could be used for my morning devotions. I haven’t read the entire bible, so reading this book exposed me to some stories that I am yet to encounter, just like the story of Absalom and his father, David. I see this book to be a wonderful means of reassurance to the Christian community; it would remind the community of the ever-presence of the one whom they believe in, God. The book is professionally edited, as there were only three minor errors. One of the errors occurred in the quotation of a bible verse.

The only thing I dislike about this book is the cover art. To me, I think the cover art doesn’t depict the content of the book. Judging from only the cover art without looking at the title, one would think that the book is about some medieval king leading his troop to war. Maybe the author has a better justification for that.

I would rate God’s Spiritual Warrior’s Promises Handbook 4 out of 4 stars. I don’t think anything, even the bad cover art, should deny this book a perfect rating. I wouldn’t recommend the book to Christians alone; I think that anyone who believes in a supreme entity would also enjoy the book.
