Review of How To Be Successful
The introduction is pretty a balanced one. It is not merely focusing on success alone but also on how to enjoy the success you have earned. The reader would definitely grow from ideas into taking calculated risks that lead to great achievements, along with key lessons of being able to decide whether to take a short-term comfort or wait for a lifetime of success. The book is compiled of eight inspiring interviews of leaders who took risks in order to obtain their success.
It is a great motivator of both those who are already go-getters in life but have not made it yet, and also for those who have not found their direction and purpose in life. The true life stories it carries move the heart from emotional state to action plan. Above all positive traits of the book, I love how M. Curtis McCoy dwells on delayed gratification and its benefits. The most intriguing part is how he explains the impatience of men and settling for the now rather than the greater part of achievement later on. He concludes by saying “Your future will thank you,” that is obviously if you wait. How many have been able to wait, and how many are settling for less?
At the conclusion of page 22, the writer carries out a statement of criticism about the Gospel of prosperity. The negative message the writer may have bestowed on the reader without noticing it would be putting out an emphasis that one needs to go through hard times first before they are able to prosper. On the other hand, Solomon in the bible lived to be the wealthiest man in his days and was very much prosperous. And the Bible says that there was peace in the days of King Solomon, so he went through no wars or hard times like his father David did.
For the positive impact the book has on the mind and the challenge it puts on those who are always on a pity party, I would like to rate the book 3 out of 4.
If you want to start thinking like a leader or have people looking up to you, this is a great book for you. I also recommend that if you have done nothing with your life, and it feels as if there is no hope of a brighter day, please take some time and read How To Be Successful – Think Like A Leader, and your life will change.
