Sandra Eden’s War is a historical fiction book written by Mike Low that follows closely to historical events. It revolves around Sandra Eden, who is an SOE (Special Operations Executive) agent from Britain. Sandra was parachuted into France a few weeks before D-Day in 1944. Her job was to work with local French Resistance, who were each known as Maquis, to plan disruptions and sabotages on German operations so that the Invasion of Normandy by the Allied forces would be more effective. Sandra and her team mainly acted against the Gestapo, who were the secret police founded by Nazi Germany. Readers get to witness this well-trained, talented, and brave woman carry out multiple missions that were challenging and dangerous.

I enjoyed constantly being kept on the edge of my seat as the author did a good job of making the reader feel as if they are in every scene in real-time due to the vivid descriptions of both the characters and scenes. The characters included were very enjoyable to read about as the author managed to create unique characters and often included what the characters were thinking and feeling which really elevates the reading experience for the reader.

This book shows that the author has done his fair share of research about this area of World War 2 and readers can enjoy the small details included such as the routines, lifestyles, and mindsets of both the resistance and the local people in France during the 1940s. The author also includes French in some dialogues, with translated English next to it, which further helps to set the story. The plot had many ups and downs which keeps the reader hooked as well as the good pace and flow of the story made it easy to read and understand.

Overall, there was not much to criticize. One thing that a reader may wish for would probably be a longer story, as I found the ending lackluster and wanted to find out more about what else happened.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This book was well edited and well written. The plot was well thought out and the characters were painted vividly. The reader could experience all the emotions felt by the characters and also be awed by the well-planned strategies by Sandra. I personally believe that there could be a few more chapters written by the author to conclude the story better.

This book is recommended for history lovers and people aged above young adults. This is due to some historical knowledge that a reader needs to possess before reading so that they can understand the story easier. There are also a few violent scenes that are not suitable for a younger audience.
