The book Selling With Presence by Reggie Pearse opens with a story. A small single-day experience in the life of the author. You keep reading the story. By the time you reach the end, you will realize that the author has already explained sales presence. The USP of this book is stories. The author has shared his experiences in form of engaging stories. The well-written stories instantly take you to that time as if you were in a time machine. The text might get a little bit overwhelming, sometimes. It is at this very moment that the author has placed a story. The reader can relax while reading the story. These stories are like chocolate chips in a chocolate chip cookie. The stories, apart from being entertaining, explain a point the author has to make. You will start waiting for the story to come. The author has advocated the effectiveness of stories in one place. This advocacy comes after you have already experienced this effectiveness yourself. This shows how talented the author is in his profession. He knows how to convince. The nicely written book at times will make the reader feel as if the author is personally talking to the reader.

When you learn by experience, you make mistakes and then you learn. Then you have real insights and knowledge of what is going to work. The insights presented in the book are on the same philosophy. This book is like a tourist guide who has visited all the places beforehand. He is now guiding you through all the problems you might face along with their solutions. This book addresses common psychological problems faced by a salesperson in his profession. It shares many simple solutions that the author has learnt from his experience.

The book teaches you how to adapt old principles to the modern digital age. The author's insights are relevant even in the modern age of digital marketing. The reader will automatically start realizing the relevance of these insights. We all know the importance of social media. The book reiterates its importance with a twist. The book provides a select few insights on the use of social media as a sales channel and in a way anyone can use it. The author has emphasised gaining customer insights and presenting interpreted data. The author explained their importance besides laying down valuable tips on their usage.

While reading the book I came across several small quotes by the author or selected by the author. They are simply common sense. But that is why they are extraordinary. You will want to write them down in your workplace or might even want to follow them as your personal policy. You will not want to look at other places for daily quotes. The learnings in the book can be remembered effortlessly. That is something rare to find in a book. Some books provide a list of takeaways at the end of every chapter. The takeaways in this book are in form of stories, quotes and several other easy to remember things.

Everyone should be a good listener. But this book moves further and teaches how to be a good listener. Your perception of a salesperson as an advertiser will change to that of a guide. A guide honestly informing all options to the customers. I rate Selling With Presence by Reggie Pearse three out of four stars. I deducted one star because of some long pieces of non-story text where you might lose your interest a bit. These text pieces are long because the author wanted to share everything. For this, I would have given an extra half star if that would have been possible. The sales process is usually considered a skill for a select few and usually for people working in the field of marketing. However, after reading the book one will understand that everyone is selling something in reality. It is for this reason that the sales are for everyone and so is this book. As a result, I can safely say that the book is for everyone. The principles presented apply to our daily lives and have the potential of leading us to success.
